I think you can get a hat cleaner spray, not sure how it works though

That just makes it smell like air freshener & cheese

Maybe its time for a new hat, but how do I stop the cheese smell coming?

You can get hat liners that are suppose to keep your head cool, they can be replaced as often as needed so should stop any smellyness!

QR, OMG I'm PMSL reading this - sorry but it's really tickled me.......

Get a new hat! Although the hat cleaner seems to work too.....

I know a few people at my yard use febreeze?
Don't have the problem you do but like others have said dry shampoo is fab! So maybe try some of that aswell?

A friend borrowed my hat and every time I use it I can smell her smelly head eewww so I used cowboy magic spray on shampoo on the hat and have used it on my head (can be used in humans aswell) hat did need a good scrub but is fine now, and nobody using my hat again lol

Totally off topic - but did that lady contact you about the offer you made to have her elderly pony??

yes, I was wondering that has well???
Any news??????

What about popping your hat in the freezer overnight or if you can take it home and leave it outside next time there is a really hard frost??

Smells like this are caused by a build up of bacteria, same as smelly trainers, freezing conditions kill the bacteria, learned this off Kim and Aggie i think it was... putting trainers in freezer got rid of the stink!

I was gonna suggest febreeze till the freezer idea came up. Sounds brilliant.

I did, however, start reading this as I was tucking into my lunch. Feeling a bit queasy now. Anyone want a blackcurrant cheesecake?

What you need is a headscarf - old fashioned horsey lady style!!!! Should protect your hat and can be washed in the machine!!!!

love the idea......imaging the remark from your other half as he opens the freezer expectting frozen peas /chips and they have all made way for a hat!! I'd probable get a remark like....what next boots in the oven?

Won't the hat need thawing out before use?

I've got the Charles Owen hat which has removable head 'strips' so you can put them in the washing machine... I think it might be an Adventura? Anyway, it's a great hat, and doesn't smell even though I wear it for hours on end

Freezing would only "suspend" the bacteria, not kill it, you would need to bake your hat for the bacteria to be killed and obviously that's not going to do the foam/plastic any good!

I'd try the dry shampoo idea. Lee Stafford do a nice smelling one (pink spray can).
