I just bought a saddle!

well done!!!! i saw that one on there!!

CAN'T ARGUE WITH 66 QUID CAN YOU!

Actually you can.

It is probably made in India, with a tree made of nails and unlevel panels :( Cheap saddles are cheap for a reason, well made safe saddles with good trees (that wont cripple your horse!) quite simply can't be made for that money :(

I hope OP it does turn out to be a nice saddle at a bargain, but PLEASE make sure you get it thoroughly checked out....

I got a practically brand new Thorowgood Griffin Selecta saddle for £80 off Ebay 2 weeks ago. Looks like it has never been used and fits Harvey perfectly! It's 10 times nicer than my Wintec, which I will now be selling if anyone's interested!

I'm fully aware what it may be, but as i said, my saddler will be checking it out fully before i use it.

Technically that stirrups that come with it cost about £45 brand new so really i could chuck the saddle if it is cr*p and hang onto the irons!

If it was a new saddle then it is highly likely it would be from India however it isn't new so it will probably be English made but with some age. There is nothing wrong with using an old saddle at all. The OP says it'll be checked by her saddler so good luck to her...... some people can't be pleased for someone's good fortune without having to rain on their parade,

Nothing to do with not being pleased for someones good fortune, as I said I genuinely hope it is a bargain for the OP :) However, people need to be aware that some "bargains" arent always bargains, hence the reply to the post quoted.

as I will say again *I GENUINELY HOPE THE OP HAS GOT A BARGAIN AND IT WORKS OUT* :)

That sounds about the right price for a no-brand 2nd hand saddle, it’s very forward cut and has very little in the way of flocking at the back, there are no pictures of it from any other angle so you can’t see if the tree is twisted or the panels are even. I suppose though if its pants as you say you can keep the stirrups and bin the saddle :D (although I’d be tempted to dissect it to see what it was made of!)

I just don’t think it’s an area that can be scrimped on, trust me I have tried. My horse is now currently out of work for at least a month due to a bad back from a saddle that fitted ‘okay’. Kicking myself as he’d just come back into work and now I’m stuck on the ground again :(

You can get brand new Thorrowgood T4’s fitted for under £400, in the general scheme of having a horse that isn’t a huge amount of money. Even if you ride bareback for a couple of months to save up it’s achievable! They do come up every now and then on ebay for around £250 if you’re patient enough to watch out for them.

if i do disect it, i'll post pictures!! Could be very interesting although i'm hoping it does turn out to be a genuine second hand saddle. My saddler showed me how to test a saddle's tree so thats the first thing i'll be checking once i get it. Damaged tree equals complaint on ebay ect ect.

Just surprised at what i paid for it, was bidding on a synthetic thorowgood few days back second hand as well and it shot up. Saddle didnt look in great condition either!

Looks good, used but good and seller has 100% feedback and shysters tend to get found out very quickly.

I hope you and your pony enjoy it I have bought a bargain named saddle so share your joy!

There seem to be a lot of leather saddles going at lower prices but good synthetics like Thorowgood seem popular and go for more.

There’s only the one picture of that saddle, IMO if the seller thought it was worth money they’d show you the pictures you need to see. Even if there is nothing wrong with the tree you can’t see if the panels are lumpy or uneven. You don’t even know what the girth straps are like, I’ve been so tempted by saddles on ebay if I could get a branded one for £60 I’d possibly consider it as if it didn’t fit my horse I could resell it to some one who could.

If it arrives and it’s the “Gallop” brand I wouldn’t even have it within 100 yards of a horse, having seen one of them dissected was shocking.

It looks very very forward cut, it’s going to place you in a rather odd position and possibly interfere with the shoulder blade too.

I have a horrible feeling we're going to seeing it's insides in a few weeks!

I hope it works out for you too. It looks quite an old saddle, but the seller invites inspection if you are close enough, so that is a good sign. In future though, be wary about feedback. Yes, this seller has 100% and favourable comments, but if you look, that is almost entirely for items they have BOUGHT,not sold.

Really it looks tatty, I would rather put the £66 towards a new saddle.

But if it fits, It doesn't matter.
