I just dont understand

Makes me so furious, I feel for this poor chap, he's got a lovely kind eye in the photo and cos of this selfish ... I shall be polite and say so and so! he's facing an uncertain future being passed around by people trying to make a quick buck out of him. In an ideal world a nice person would take him as a field companion but an arthritic tb makes for a hellava expensive companion. I don't know how someone could put him through it... If my euromillions numbers come up I'll take him!

I don't understand some people. If he was as nice as she has made out, then why sell him?! Probably just wants to make room for a new horse that can be ridden more....
Even so, I wouldn't dream of selling my horse, let alone take him to the meat man!!
That poor boy is gorgeous, if I was lucky enough to be able to afford two TBs he would be at my yard tomorrow! :(

That is probably the most callous advert I have seen. Unfeeling cow! meat man has offered 250 so won't go much below?! so if someone came along and said i'll take your horse and give him a nice home for life she would only let him go if she got near the 250!

I totally agree, her wording in her ad is disgusting, poor horse he looks a sweetie how unfortunate for him to have such a callous owner, I do so hope a nice caring person comes along and buys him!

well done to all who sent messages - i cant as i never use that site so am not a member.
Genuineley shocked by such open callousness - absolutely evil.

Wow, you're all quick to jump on this. Do you really think bitching at the person is going to change their mind? If anything, it makes them more likely to sell the horse to the meat man.

There's nothing wrong with someone sending a horse for meat. It's done very day, and as long as it's humane, then I have no problem with it.

If you're all that concerned about the horse, offer them £251 for him and bring him home.

They could have just sent the horse off but they're at least trying to get him a good home.

I think it would be more honourable to take the horse to the meat man yourself. Then you know for certain what the end is. Otherwise there is the chance, yes, that someone will offer a permanent home, but there is also the chance that someone will offer £260 and drag him to the sales and sell him for £300 to a dodgy dealer who will bute him up and sell him on as fully fit, oh yes, and sell his three rugs on ebay. If you genuinely have fallen on such hard times that you can't afford PTS at home and have a horse, like this one, that doesn't have a great chance of finding an ideal companion/light hacking home, then maybe taking him to the meat man yourself and staying with him until the end is the kindest thing.
The threat in the advert - 'buy this horse or I'll sell him for meat' - is low, it must be said. Choices should be made in the best interests of our animals not our pockets.

OH get real how very naive your post is!! They aren't 'at least trying to get him a good home' are they??? They are just trying to get more than the meat man has (no doubt) already offered them. They are putting the old timer up for auction and dont give a damn about his fate now do they...seriously?;)

If they really cared about this horse and cant find a good home then they would quietly and without fuss and confusion to the horse, either taken the horse straight to the abattoir themselves or arranged for him to be collected.:(

Of course nothing we say will make one moments difference to this horse's future - but by God I feel better for airing my views to the owner in question!:(

I think it is sad that the poor horse may end up in the meat factory. I personally would rather PTS than that. Although she does say she has financial problems I honestly don't think sending him to the meat man for £250 is going to make a lot of difference to major money worries. Poor little man, hope someone can take him. Just as well I don't have my own land I'd be taking all these poor souls in!

Not naive at all. I just fail to see how sending nasty emails to the owner will improve the situation. All it's doing is making them defensive and less likely to work with an honest buyer.

are they hell.

they're using emotional blackmail 'WILL GO TO FACTORY NEXT WEEK!!' - to get someone to buy him.
if they were genuinely trying to get the horse a good home they wouldnt be refusing to take less money than the meat man would give them for him.

if they were REALLY trying to get him a good home the paltry sum of a few hundred quid wouldnt be an issue.

OMG thats not far at all from me and I have a couple of acres and a stable doing nothing

I must not buy that horse, I must not buy that horse, I must not buy.........

At least by asking for more than the meatman would give, the owner is preventing someone promising a good home and paying peanuts, then selling to the meatman themselves for a profit ...
