2 happenings this past week that just leave me gobsmacked .

Firstly, friends of a friend, I would have said dog savvy, she has competed in WT, husband always lived with dogs, have 2 dogs, couple are in early 80s and wife is housebound recovering from broken femur. Stray dog turns up in their garden, described as boxer type head, but more solidly built , warning bells ringing for normal people. Dog seems friendly so husband pops it in a no longer used kennel and run. Dog warden doesn't work weekends, no problem they can keep dog till Monday. Husband decides it seems a friendly soul, so he will let it out to play with their dogs. Dog nails their 13 year old dog, narrowly missed her jugular, she had to be hospitalised and is in a bit of a mess. Sounds as if husband was lucky not to be bitten himself, had a hell of a job getting it off. When DW turned up, dog not chipped and they said it was of type. Sad for the dog, but sadder for the stupid mans old girl who is going to take a while to recover.
Second incident, friend and I were walking last week in local beauty spot. Lovely day so it was quite busy, we just stepped off path whenever we met someone and put our 2 GSDs in a sit while folk passed. They we met a couple , moved off the path as previous, woman walked past without comment then man stopped and just stared at my dog , didn't speak just proper eye balled her. It made us both quite uncomfortable and we sort of carried on walking through the undergrowth to get past him, but just why would you do that. He was actually lucky he chose my girl and not my friends dog as he might just have taken exception to the behaviour. We were both absolutely gobsmacked and couldn't see why he did it.

Anybody eyeballing him would deserve the resulting Darwin award. 😂

What is it about moving off the path that seems to entice people into your space? We can park ourselves in nettles, brambles and hedges and still have people veering off their course to get as close as possible.

It happens to us too! So much so that we have stopped walking the dogs from home. We always take them in the car now - and usually go to a secure field.

That poor old girl. Hope she makes a full recovery. Stupid person.
I had enough of stupid yesterday too when riding on the beach and a dog came towards us 🙄. Shout at owner to get her dog. Ignores me and starts walkingbtiwards us. Dog is a few feet away and I shout my horse is scared of dogs.
The woman's reply was "oh, I thought you were calling on my dog". I'm sorry but on what planet do you think 2 riders minding their own business are ever going to want to interact with your dog?

My friends dog is small but muzzled as he doesn't like people. The amount of people that let their dogs go up to him or they go up to him is unreal and causes them both stress. She tries to stay to paths very few people use.

The amount of dogs with no recall I meet puts me off taking my horse to the beach

I find more dogs miles from their owner on in the woods than on the beach. In the woods the owners have no idea where their dogs are or if they do they've not noticed the horse the dog is circling. On the beach you have room to turn and face the dog and the owners eventually are able to grab their dog. I understand it being off-putting and am lucky my girl is sensible despite being wary now of dogs.
