I just saw a Skye Terrier

Had to go and google what one was ! Very cute.
High maintenance coat though - imagine that in the muddy fields.

Very high maintenance looking at him. His owner was terribly proud of him and told me only 10% have the floppy ears. He looked like such a character trotting down the road, much bigger than I would have expected. The dog, not the owner 😆
.

That looks like Dougal!

That's what the owner said!

I said "What is HE! I mean, he's a dog obviously, but what type? "

And he replied "he's a Skye Terrier, a Dougal dog. He's got floppy ears, only 10% of them have floppy ears".

He was a pretty big dog, maybe 3 feet long?

I walked home singing the Magic Roundabout tune 😁

I remember seeing them as a child but haven't seen one in years in the UK; see them more frequently stateside. They are lovely looking dogs.

Twice as long as he is tall! That's the breed standard. The coat had started to get overdone and additional notes were made to the standard about reasonable coat/not obscuring the dogs vision at least in Europe

A breeding/boarding kennel where I walked dogs at weekends as a teen (40 years ago) had a Skye terrier. A big (very long but substantial) dog. I was surprised by his size and substance for such a low slung dog.

I imagine they'd be a lot easier to keep if you cut them shorter to something more like this and I think I actually prefer how they look with the shorter hair too.

I love seeing all the different breeds and think it's so sad the ones that are now classed as vulnerable.

That’s a puppy though so the coat changes quite dramatically as they mature.

Yes, poor example, how about this one instead?

I'd have thought it must be possible to trim them shorter one way or another? As they really would be high maintenance otherwise!

Yes that looks much more manageable 😍
