Why is that so much to ask!?

I want a palomino. To mature anything between 13.2-15.2 as I don't weight much.
I don't mind having a baby, preferably 2yo upwards but would consider a foal or yearling.
Im not that fussed on breed. A welshy would be nice, an arab would be nice, anything inbetween really!

Ive got facility for a colt, ive got facility to run a baby on with other youngsters.

A beautiful gelding came up yesterday which is already sold, another add ive contacted doesn't reply.

Why is it so hard!?

My budget isn't massive. I don't really want to spend more than £1k but im not looking for anything broken in or a top class show pony so I don't think it unreasonable?

Anyone with any suggestion? Im in Hampshire so ideally don't want to travel more than around 2 hours...

There's a group on Facebook Welsh Section D Cobs. I'm sure I saw a palomino colt on there recently.

ETA - no she was a yearling filly. Not 100% certain if she's for sale or if her owner's just showing her off - new Facebook rules make it difficult to tell!

It’s hard because it’s a pretty colour and anything mega cheap (which 1K is) is going to shift quick if it’s nice.

If you are interested in Welsh there are the sales coming up, check out Brightwells. Might be worth shopping there, should be some cheaper slightly ferel ones

The welsh cob and pony sales are on 1/2/3 Nov. Worth a trip, normally a few palominos going through and the colts tend to make less than the fillys.

Cynheidrefawr stud in llanelli. Kay breeds the most beautiful palomino Welsh ponies. I'm lucky enough to own one 😊

Palamino's fon't usually do it for me, but (s)he's lovely!

OP, in all honesty, you've not got much of a budget even if you weren't fussy on colour. If you aren't prepared to budge on colour, you may have to be prepared to either wait a while or travel further.

There is also Jabeth (maybe Jebeth?) Stud in Surrey who breed palomino Welsh if that's what you're after, they're on Facebook.
You are unfortunately after a popular/pretty colour, have a relatively small budget and don't want to travel too far so you may need to be patient. It helps you don't mind having a youngster or something smaller though.

Have you tried putting a wanted add out? My first loan pony was a Palomino welsh. There may be people considering selling that haven’t yet advertised and you could get first refusal. Good luck as palominos are stunning!

Buy one! Join the club 😁

My little one was around the £3k mark, at just under 3 years old. I was a little concerned that I was paying over the odds for colour, which wasn’t my focus.

I was looking for a specific type - something like a western pleasure horse but an English version. I looked at arab/ quarter horse/ appaloosa /PRE types. I ended up seeing two palominos but I would have been happy with any colour.

Having had her a few months, I’d happily pay twice that for her. She is an absolute joy and she is so beautiful she really makes my heart stop. I couldn’t put a price on looking into my field and seeing her all golden and floaty. I look at her, and my inner five year old is totally appeased!

there are some palomino arab youngsters on horsemart but in sevenoaks, kent...if you go onto horsemart and just put choice of colour they come up on the first page...

One of the first things my uber wise (then 6!) DD said - was buy the horse. Not her colour. Pallis are lovely. No doubt. I have an added link that my first 40 years ago was a Palli. I love them to bits. But buy the horse... not the colour.

The one thing I said to 6 year old DD (She's 20 now..) as we set out on the hunt for her first pony was "Nothing coloured. Nothing hogged." So of course we ended up with a coloured hogged pony. But he was - and is - the absolute best. I love Pallis - but so do a lot of folk which pushes the price up and increases the risk they have not been taught appropariate manners because folk have been too fixated on how pretty they are.

Buy the horse. Not the colour.

^^^ This, agree totally!

A few horses back, I was fixated that I "wanted a palomino". So I'd go to every single horse that I could find that was a Pally; and ignored everything else. I even had one on trial that everyone else in the area where it had come from knew it was a total fookwit, except me!!

Went to see two Haffy's (who are palomino's!!) at what I later found out was a very dodgy dealers yard; unbeknown to me these two had been trawled around the markets all over the place. One apparently had a mega power-buck; the other (mare) was OK'ish until I tried to dismount, then went into a frenzy!

So I gave up looking for a palomino! And ended up with a lovely coloured boy who came on loan from a trekking centre for the winter, and ended up staying! - and was a quirky as a box of frogs but we managed to sort each other out, eventually!

This time around, I didn't even bother making a "colour" choice. I somehow ended up going to see something that a friend-of-a-friend was selling which had everything going for it that I'd said I didn't want - i.e. youngster, mare, hairy cob, pony, etc etc. and she's been my Best Friend ever since the day I first sat on her. She "chose" me in fact.

IF a palomino comes up that's right for you, then go for that. But otherwise I would urge you to ignore whatever colour the coat may be and buy the horse underneath it.
