Sorry, I seem to have posted a lot today - I keep remembering random things and wondering what other people think xD
Anyway...

Have noticed recently that my gelding pees.... far too much O.o He's turned out during the day and in at night on a nice deep bed of shavings - that's currently costing a fair amount to keep nice and deep because I'm taking either just under half a wheelbarrow of wet bedding out per day or 2 barrows of muck out every 2-3 days!

(that's if I leave the wet bedding for a day or two without taking it out and then muck out normally AND take the wet out)
Normally with most horses I've mucked out in the past they'd only have the wet taken out around once a week and it would be less than 2 barrows usually! (inc. muck too)

Not to mention... it STINKS. I mean, it really does smell awful. And it just seems... not normal O.o He shares a water bucket in his field during the day, but doesn't seem to be drinking loads at night. He's fed Calm & Conditioner with Alfa-A (but was on ready grass until a few weeks ago - was like this before that changed) and Magic calmer + a joint supplement. Has a net of hay and a net of haylage at night, grass in the day.
He's also started eating thistles loads recently... I know horses sometimes eat random things when they're ill as they contain certain things that help? Does this mean something?
Am I worrying over nothing??

He was given cranberry juice in his feed for a short while, which helped a little I think, so plan on getting some more. But can anyone else suggest why he might be peeing so much?! It's doing my head in xD And it's rather worrying!

pees alot she does

id get it tested by the vet, this is what we did.. and there is nothing wrong with her, its just she drinks alot so pees a lot, and being older her bladders slightly weaker
 
My horse drinks buckets and pees buckets. She's currently bedded on straw and when I lift the bed in the morning there's a puddlle covering half the stable floor!

Its normal for her - I'd only be worried if there was a sudden increase/decrease in the amount a horse drinks/pees.
 
Well... I didn't notice him peeing quite THAT much when we had him stabled at home... O.o At first I put it down to the warm weather - but it's been cool/raining an awful lot lately and he still drinks like a fish xD
Will try cranberry juice for a few weeks... if he's still peeing like crazy and especially if it's still making my eyes water it smells that bad, he can have a visit from the vet, sure he'll be thrilled

I would call the vet now. It could be a variety of things, e.g. infection, liver problems, diabetes, or nothing very serious at all, but I would call the vet. Hopefully it is nothing, but if it is something it could get more complicated if left untreated.

Try to get a urine sample, it's the first thing the vet will ask for.
 
Peeing is normal. Peeing in the most difficult part of the stable is normal. Peeing more if you drink more is normal. Eating thistles is normal (my Haffie used to curl his lips back out of harm's way, gingerly nip the flower off and chew it up with a smug look on his face).

I deep litter Sunny - front third of stable = rubber matting, back 2 thirds = deep litter shavings. This bed has been down over 2 years with absolutely no attention other than take out the poo and any obvious surface wet, tidy it all up, pat down hard with the back of the shavings fork, scrape some new bedding down from the bank at the back. And scouts honour, Sunny's stable always smells fresh and sweet. When he's in at night during the winter, I get through a bale every 6 days and I am fairly generous with it. In the winter my disgustingly messy rescued mare Angel used to cross her legs in the field and let her bladder go only when she was in her stable. Pee that isn't absorbed does release a lot of ammonia and the smell can knock you off your feet!

I wouldn't really worry - there's a big difference in what is "normal" in different neds.
 
I understood from the OP that the horse is peeing markedly more than normal. If I misunderstood and the horse normally pees a lot, then that is unlikely to be a problem, but a change in urine volume, colour or smell could signify serious problems and is worth checking out. Hopefully it will be nothing serious but it's better to be safe than sorry,
