I keep seeing ads for 'quick knot' for plaiting

Sometimes these things just seem to be a clever marketing campaign. Quick knot looks like a slightly funky hairpin, and not very creative or revolutionary. Plus they only replace the final thread or elastic band you use once you've rolled the plait. So are they really as awesome as the FB ads and recommendations make them out to be?

They are only going to be perfect if you can plait well in the first place, spending time getting the plaits even and tight and there is no need for anything other than some thread with a needle or a band to finish the job.

I'm not convinced by the price tag for 20 of the things that you are guaranteed to lose half of by the time you've done your mane! I'll stick to needle and thread thanks!

I still want to try these, I sew my plaits in but my hands are hypermobile so sometimes holding the needle and pushing it through the plait is extremely painful :( Bands won't stay in Kira's hedge mane and I don't like the look of them anyway ;) At some point I'll get some!

They're 24p each?

They look great. Bands are never neat on the rolled up plait and I can't be bothered with thread. I tried flower wire a few years ago but these look a lot easier.

I bought some because I'm basically a sucker for a good advert . They're fine. Def smarter than a plaiting band, but no quicker (for me!) ... Not as smart as sewing in but my moody mare wouldn't permit sewing in. I reuse the clips and I think they'll last me a looooong time as pretty solid. In that sense, maybe better for the environment as I used to go through a lot of plastic bands. But I know nothing about the manufactoring process so who knows!

I know someone who bought them a while ago - she LOVES them, no more threading neddles, scissors etc. She’s still reusing the first lot she got and she plaits regularly. If ever I get back competing I’ll definitely be getting some :-)

given the number of random plaiting bands that get left on fields after competitions I'm a bit worried about the amount of metal pins we could end up hanging round with the reports of them falling out.

I suspect they are mane specific, ours is very coarse and wirey even when well pulled so has always been neatest sewn, it's hard to imagine how they would tame it sufficiently!

Someone on my yard has ordered some to try so I'll have a look. I sew in and I thought more than doing the plait, it could really save time taking them out at the end of the day where I am trying to snip out thread without taking out half the mane.

I ordered some , " stitch pickers ," think that's what they're called . Good old fleabay , they were a quid for four . I find them fab for getting elastics/thread snipped without taking a clump of mane with them .

Yes but you still have to unpick each stitch, I like the idea of just unclipping one thing.

Agree 100%, I've been saying this since they first came out- even if they are more expensive than a rubber band they'll still get dropped by accident or thrown away if they're damaged etc etc

They're awesome - I have been using them for showing and they're so much quicker than thread. Haven't lost one yet 4 shows later using them on two horses. I'd be very fussy about my plaits and these pass the test

I recently mentioned this in one of my posts, I felt I was being sucked in by the adverts but as many comments said ‘equal to sewing in but easier’ I decided to learn to sew in. Luckily I am not too awful at plaiting with bands so the sewed in ones were very good and therefore I think that will satisfy me for a bit :p

I think they are expensive considering they recommend ‘single use’ for best effect. With a half rubbed out mane I have 11-13 plaits at the moment, normally plait atleast once a week or twice in a good hunting week. So that’s only 9 sets for £24.. if the company could advocate multi use then I would probably try. Also concerned about the creation of a disposable product made out of metal.

I reuse mine no problems

I use hair clips, the ones you use to keep a bun in your hair. Once you roll push it through then fold the ends out to keep it in. It keeps our pony’s in when bands pop off and I can’t figure out sewing
