Delicia has been really good of late, and i managed to jinx this by saying to my friend how i think she has turned a corner...bad mistake!

Today, i took delicia back to our old yard for a show. I was going to do two prelim HC and an elementary. Delicia decided against this. In fact, she wasnt too keen on the idea of me riding her. We got to the yard and delicia was on her toes, snorting. She recognised the environement and started to really misbehave. She started head shaking and stamping her feet. I tried to sooth her and get her round and soft. She was like a tnak, no respect for my aids and running from my led aids, over sensitive all the time. I started one test but tbh i got to the first canter after being towed about the arena and thought **** it lol and retired. I was not going to force the issue, this isnt why i was competing. I was there to teach and train delicia, and brute force will only get her coming back at me. I am glad i retired. I went back into the wamr up arena, delicia reared and bolted off with me .

This is exactly what i feared she would do. I was scared, i wont lie. The very reason why i had dee in the double for so long was because of her bolting with me in a test. I managed to turn her in a tight circle and get the contorl back, but i jumped off her. I knew i needed to ride her though it, but i am sorry, i wasnt going to risk myself doing so.
Luckily, i had taken my double with me (its stored in my lorry). I changed her bridle and got back on her. Instantly she was more controlable.

I was very careful to have veyr little pressure on her curb rein. I rode her almot purely off the snaffle rein, and she seemed to respect my riding more. I was supposed to go into my second prelim test but i withdrew. The judge kindly let me into the big arena to school and train delicia, an offer i gladly took. I am so glad i did, she was as good as gold.

After 5-6 minutes i left the arena and was standing chatting to a few people i knew at the yard when delicia started acting up again. She went into a high speed revere and kicked out at people. I was mortified and quickly rode her away from the situation. There is no rhyme nor reason for her to have done that except pure temper at standing still. She hasnt exhibited behvaiour like this since leaving the yard.

I am very diappointed in her, she has been going great and no only did she play up and make herself lok a fool, but i felt like a fool returning back there, and have dee play up.

*sighs*

Oh well, i suppose you cant have them all.

So anyone fancy a horse burger? Very reasonable price....

Dont worry took my lad to a show and he reared and would go into the ring. He got so nasty he had to be taken home his mind had blown. She is a lovely colour.

Shes that beautiful you really do have to forgive her diva moments.

The bottom pic is her clearly saying sorry !

Ahh you poor thing. I actually think you were brave to withdraw, you felt it was right thing to do and clearly it was. Everyone has bad days and i'm sure you'll overcome it.

DOnt be embarrassed i'm sure everyone has a had a bad day in front others before. :)

I think ur bottom pic says 'i'm sorry mum, i do love u really!'

Try to think about the amazing relaxed hack you had with her that you posted the lovely pics of - you ARE making progress, it's just not a straight line.....I know thats easy to say - but well done for going in to do the schooling :-))))

Your horse is really beautiful!

I don't know your back story, but one thing stood out for me in your post:

After 5-6 minutes i left the arena and was standing chatting to a few people i knew at the yard when delicia started acting up again. She went into a high speed revere and kicked out at people. I was mortified and quickly rode her away from the situation. There is no rhyme nor reason for her to have done that except pure temper at standing still. It sounds to me as if your horse realky disliked something about this yard or environment. Reading between the lines, she is behaving really well for you wherever you are just now... presumably there was a settling in period but it sounds as though she's happy and relaxed and working well for you.

You say as soon as you got off the lorry at the old place, she started to behave differently... I don't know if she has bad associations, or whether there's just something about the place, but maybe, just maybe, it's the place and not your lovely mare that was the issue yesterday :)

Will follow your updates, as she really is eyecatching!

I think they are all vile today the yellow pony tried to get me off several times on a hack (which is not like him at all) today and was so unbelievably horrid to the child that came to see him .

Fingers crossed shes better for you next time.

The same thing crossed my mind when I read your post.

Was she happy at that yard?

I don't compete at my old yard purely because I hate the pressure of all the other liveries watching! And if I'm not relaxed the horse isn't. Could this be what happened? She possible sensed your anxiousness? It does seem from your post that you were worrying what people thought etc, which we all do but it's harder when your going back to an old yard. At least when you go somewhere you don't know people you can pretend they're only a baby :-P

Yes i do believe it was rider error going back. i have nothing to prove but i am watched the whole time and i dont like it....dee is in season, branco her stable mate doesnt understand what hes done wrong . He goes near her for his afternoon nuzzle and shes is pony-ears-back for him.....bless.

I like your honesty :)

As someone else said, she may have picked up on any slight anxiousness from you about returning to your old yard (why did you leave there? and how long ago?), she is obviously quite tuned into you, so even if you didn't feel any different, maybe a different mindset (subconsciously) about going back?

There also seems a lot of 'spring fever' after the recent rain, the grass has started to grow again.

Is she in/due season?

Maybe she just really didn't fancy it today??

I brought my friends mare in this evening. Normally placid, she started throwing her (considerable!) weight around as I dared to stop and chat to another livery on the way in

And on a hack yesterday with La, afore-mentioned friend's mare and a gelding, the two girls spent most of the ride threatening to kill each other:eek: such fun  so you are not alone ;)

So many factors, if's and but's (it's what makes them so interesting! :D)

What is your next move? (horse burgers not an option:D)

DD & LaLa

ps and how the hell do you post pics??!! I'd love to wow you all with La's beauty fullness!!!!!!!:D:D:D

Don't shout at me for this suggestion, and I haven't read all your other posts, but have you ever thought about backing off and totally restarting her?

ETS just to say, I do know the bit about you moving away from the double!

Poor you! Dee looks sorry in the last pic! She's so beautiful, you can't be cross with her for long! :p

Maybe she was just having a diva moment, or as previously mentioned, it could just be something about that yard she doesn't like?

There's a venue here where my boy always acts up. Last time we were there, he dumped me in the warm up (he's usually half asleep when we arrive anywhere else) My instructor was with me and persuaded me to do my test anyway covered in wet sand! :o

It could also be the time of year, I took mine up to the school today and he was having none of it! Neck set, snorting, running though my aids, shying in every corner...I gave up in the end!

It's such a deflating feeling, especially when you put in so much effort. Keep at it, don't give up and put it down to a bad day. There's always next time!

I know I'm about to get shot down here, [*puts on tin hat*] and I'm not suggesting you do this with your mare as she seems sharper than any of my horses, but if they messed me around like that they would have a proper smack or three with the whip from me. And then i would ride them into the ground.

One of my horses, a good few years ago, would get bad tempered if we had to stand. He bolted with me in a field, after being made to stand whilst on a hack. So, when he wanted to stop after his little paddy, I galloped him round and round the field until he was kn**kered! He never, ever bolted with me again.

From reading some of your posts though, I don't think you could smack or ride Delicia hard, though.
