I am relatively new to horses and the forum and would like to hear all your thoughts on this video.

I watch it and what I see appears to be inspiring and aspirational .....

I saw the video on a different post but strangely for this topic nobody really commented, which to me suggests even though its parelli it's hard to criticise ?

Sorry, clip is http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Ow2yDdRK_Zc

Interested in opinions on this vid specifically ... (I know it's not cheap etc )

Thanks,

Z

PS Not a troll, although my wife might disagree as she sees my face.

Ahh yes he is an amazing guy! I've always loved watching him work with his horses.

No one says anything, because there is little say - probably due to the dribble running out of people's mouths.

Him and Stacy are wonderful horsemen in my opinion. They do things with horses that others can simply dream about.

Thanks for that - I haven't seen that vid for a while now.

Hi,

Ok I will make the first post (why I am still online I don't know, I work from home and am doing a degree, so as I have my laptop on most the day and into the night when I study I like to make things harder for myself by getting distracted as anything seems better then to work or study like I am doing now!)
Anyway back on topic, I thought this was great. I really did. I do not do parelli, though I have read the books by Kelly Marks/richard Maxwell and like their work. It has help me and I know it has helped many others. I thought this dispay was inspiring and I wish I could jump my horse out of the school and back in with no tack - quite amazing really!

TBh, if the horse looked at all happy, ears back the entire time.. I would like the vid, and if he gave it a decent run into the picnic tables, that was messy.
It is essentially just a different way of training, I just dont enjoy watching a tense horse personally..not that it was tense in all of the video.

Now i enjoyed watching that...not soo much the flatwork but in awe at that horse jumping...however difference with watching that guy to the parelli's is...that horse never once looked pissed off or miserable, the whip was never wafted about like a feather duster

,lol,it was a pleasure to watch!!

No it doesn't does it - horse looks so content and happy with life.

Western horses always flick their ears TSH; when they are concentrating hard on what the rider is doing/asking, they always use their ears to "listen/watch" for commands. That is very typical behaviour for super highly trained horses.

yes it looked content and happy with what guy was asking it to do...was nice to see,how many of our horses would whip round and jump benches like that??mine sure as hell wouldnt, lol!!There was no wiggling a 10ft line to its head to confuse it,there was no wafting whip about...was nice to see

I think parelli is ok but there are more practical and down to earth horse trainers ,horse trainers that end up with more rounded and usefull horses.. I like craig cameron there are some nice videos on www.horsecity.com i think his leading video is good and check out the cowboy races he runs!!!
enjoy......

i don't think it is the concept of natural horsemanship done well, that anyone has issues with.

The problem lies with the marketing machine called 'parelli' which encourages the belief that after watching some expensive dvd's and purchasing expensive gadgets a person (often a novicy person) will be able to use 'tricks and games' to tame or handle horses which are probably very unsuitable for them in the first place.

That was quite incredible, he's a real horseman, they are so in tune with each other and his ability to balance is incredible! It seems far more natural and controlled than Parelli, like it's somthing he does because he enjoys, not because he is trying to sell it.

Whats he holding in his hands when he's riding?
Must say, i do like it when people praise their horses alot .
Too many times they forget that the horse actually got them where they are

A lovely video and if nothing else it shows how a horse can be guided and trained with no fancy gadgets. I don't think I could even manage sitting trot on my boy bareback let alone jump him - my excuse is that my legs are far too short! My screen is very poor quality but it definately looked like rider had something in his hands whilst riding. Lovely horse though.

The whole 'P' concept annoys me. I do things like this with my horses, not because it's 'in' but because I always have done, it's a way to bond with them and have some fun in the field. The 'P' lot take themselves way too seriously and there are some areas of their "training" that I find repellant (ie sitting on the horse whilst it's lying down).

That said, the guy in the video seems to have a lovely connection with his horse and the horse seemed to be having some fun.

Pat Parelli doesn't "train" his students to sit on their horses when they're lying down.

But I'd like to ask why you find this "repellant"?

I posted this video because I think it is very good.

Yes it works along Parelli lines - although as Parelli says quite openly - This stuff is so old its new again!

I must admit, I was suprised that not many responded. Mind you, most of this forum seem to be very much into Parelli bashing and were unable to make their usual derogatory comments over this video.

I thank you for bringing this post and video to peoples attention again.

You posted the video?? Someone called Zaffy posted it didn't they? Or are you the same person with more than one HHO user account?

You won't get too many responses here, possibly because this video has been posted a fair few times over the years, and possibly because what can people say?
