Last year I spent over £150 on clipper blades, and I still didn't manage to get a single full clip done without either major tramlines or having to change blades a couple of times... consequently, as much as I love my Liveryman Harmony Plus, I'm going to have to upgrade to something a little meatier to cope with my ponies really dense fur.

I'm looking for recommendations for something that isn't too heavy and doesn't get too hot too quickly. Last year I resorted to borrowing a friends Lister Star, and I found they got hot really quickly, despite frequent (every 5 mins) oiling.

I have really small hands, so something which isn't too bulky too would be great.

And... if I can add cordless/or cordless option that would be great.

I'll be ordering online, as clippers here are horrendous prices.

Thanks!

The Heineger Experience are brilliant - I got 5 clips out of one set of blades on a hairy Section D, including taking off the pathetic feather that she grows :p.

They do a cordless model too but I think that puts the price up another £80+.

I have Lister Liberty clippers and really rate them. I've had them for approx 7years with no problems so far. Mole Valley Farmers have them on offer as a set with some trimmers at the moment (get extra 10% off if you sign up to emails)

Lister Liberty or Heiniger Xplorer are both good battery machines. Better battery life (More clipping time) with the Liberty, but the Heiniger does tend to run cooler and quieter. Worth getting a spare battery with the Heiniger. Liberty is normally pretty reliable, as long as you get your blades sharpened properly, some people grind Lister blades and I am sorry to swear, but the finish is ****! Lapping is the only way to give Lister blades the correct finish. Also, always use Lister Oil or Exact copy, thin oils make a big difference. Batteries on Liberty last a long time, but always charge fully before putting away and if you leave them stored, dont let them get cold and give them a full run down and recharge if stored for ages. Very little to go wrong inside a Liberty, usual faults caused by breaks in the wires caused by tugging and twisting, applies to most clippers with a cable.
