As this is potentially a very dangerous situation as these horses could get on the road and cause a serious accident......but this made me chuckle....

On 28 January, horses were found grazing on Grims Dyke golf course in Oxhey Lane — where they frequently interrupt play.

"Something has to be done," said club secretary Ron Jones. "Last year, we had to have the 17th green completely rebuilt after they got in, which cost us £30,000."

MWHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

Golf course???? what's that then??? waste of good grazing land if you ask me!!!!!

i quite agree!!!

My hubby is serious golfer might show him the post for debate. He thinks horses are the most expensive hobby going .If I walked mine home from livery I could sneak them on course for some grass.I could rearrange the tees and greens in no time they need improving .

Lol! we have a brilliant bridleway that goes STRAIGHT through the golf course!! Its really good fun to hold up the golfers!! or yell 'fore' as we ride through! Extremely immature, but jolly good fun!!

i have a few golf courses where i live, and i quite often think what a fab place for a jolly good gallop!!! wouldnt it make it more interesting for the golfers if there were divits (sp) to avoid ect.. Its far too easy rolling a ball over that perfect golf green!!

we could always fertilise the greens for free lol

I don't find it amusing in the slightest - the members of the club have probably had their membership increased to pay for the damage caused by some idiot horse owner not securing their horses correctly.

How about thinking how peeved you would be if you went to turn your horse out and your paddock had turned into the 9th hole? Its actually not funny, golf courses take a f*ck load of money to maintain, and membership fees are not cheap before a load of horses go galloping along it.

TBH they have the money!! After some arrogant twat of a golfer nearly took my windscreen out to to his impatince i don't give a toss about them!!

LOL at the golfcourses being a waste of good grazin!

I see a golfcourse and just dream of galloping a horse across it. It looks so springy and perfect, just right for a galloping horse.

We used to hack past a golf course and got charged £5 for every hoof print found (unfortunately there is a riding school right next to them...... )

TBH just as horses are our hobbies, golf is obviously their 'thing' so they have just as much right to do it without interruption as we have.

I will keep the galloping on a golf course as a day dream, dont worry. I agree everybody should be able to do their 'thing' without interuption.

They have just tarmaced a bridleway/pathway near me. I am disgusted.

Posts like this is why horse owners get a bad name. My father is a keen golfer and businessman- many deals made on a golf course- easy to make deals as diffuses the situation, allows you to get to know your potential new client etc, he would be furious if a potential deal was lost because the course was damaged/closed

I dont find it funny- thats like saying ha ha if a kennel let its dogs out in your arena at night- they crapped everywhere and dug big holes and chewed the fences. Im sure you would not be laughing then. What a poor attitude especially in this financial climate.

Even though I'd love to go galloping across the neighbouring golf course I don't have access and wouldn't anyway as that would most likely see me being removed from the yard...

But I must say, why can't some golfers keep their golf balls on the golf course? No one lobs horse cr@p on their greens, so why do they keep hitting balls onto the roofs of the indoor schools (which is incredibly loud) and onto the bridle path? On one occasion a friend was nearly hit and this was on the yard, a good few yards (

) away from said golf course. The same ball nearly had a pony in the hocks on its way over towards the stable block.

Sorry, rant over

Just to say there are two sides to this.

I can think of a lot reasons as to why horse riders/owners get a bad name, not saying thank you to motorists who slow down, not saying good morning when hacking past a bus stop, being up one's self, always knowing best, being superior and sooooo much more but having a giggle at this post ????? No lady, this is not a reason to despise owners/riders, is this depressing climate having a giggle is worth far more than a bloody golf course having a few hoof prints.........

I'm sure in this "depressing climate" the golf course owners would not be giggling at having to shell out on fixing their course....

Yes I'm sure all the bankers that play golf on a friday afternoon will be devastated at having to spend their hard earned bonuses on repairing their golf course.....

£30,000 worth of hoof prints- hardly a giggle.

Money is tight at the moment, one needs to be careful. There is having a giggle- then there is having a giggle at anothers expense.

One of the GC about 30 miles from here is now only open thur to sun-why? because the credit crunch means fewer golfers- if this had happened to them im sure they would be devasted.

Ok I agree if a load of horses just ran willy nilly over a perfectly manicured golf course then that would be totally irresponsible but I really don't think this post was meant in that light. I can also talk with an amount of knowledge as to who is actually on golf courses in week....... mainly my bosses, city chaps who do take the obscene bonuses that are being discussed in current affairs, I say obscene as my bonus is directley related to monies I actually make for my company as apposed to loses, not that I'm bitter........ a bit maybe 'cos their bonus is a lot bigger than mine !

Ohh, golfers are all disgustingly rich bankers... just like horse riders are landed gentry
wink.gif
If someone's manege or paddock gets trashed what does it matter?
grin.gif

Mmmm.... tbh I think golfers are probably better off than the average horse owner, maybe that's because the horses cost more on the whole, I don't know, but I do think the OP was just trying to lighten the day.
I also can't reconcile your comment about menage/paddock being trashed as they are normally fenced in ?
I'm an old cynical bag now and do think that an "accidental" rampage by horses on a golf course, while irresponsibe, is not that serious in the greater scheme of things but deliberate vandalism is a whole different ball game but each to their own and there are much more worrying things to think about than hooves and golf courses, that said I do take your point
