and i have said i hated them before

but can you give me some advice about riding with draw reins

im going to use them to get wilma to flex more
and use them more like a curb rein
 
they're fine if used properly. just make sure you have someone experienced with you and ensure you ride into the contact and not hold them in place. they can be very beneficial

Get her moving off your leg and get her going forward. When you use them you want her to walk on and use herself you don't want her to be backing off them as they won't work.
 
thin leather ones are the easiest to use i've found. try to make sure you have more of a contact on the normal reins and just use the draw reins when you need them and as others have said you'll need to use loads of leg to keep her going forward into the contact
 
cool, so more like riding in double reins then?

she does normally move forwards from behind, but i will make sure she does all the time :d
 
I actually quite like them - although i tend to use them as extra hacking brakes lol! when I school in them, I start off with no contact in them at all and warm up as normal then gradually shorten them as i move on, making sure the horse is going forwards. I find they make a huge difference in canter, but make a horse really pottery in trot if not pushed forwards enough. I use bog standard cotton web ones.

Ditto.

I ride with two pairs of reins, like with a double. One pair fitted normally to the snaffle, and the other using the MH. Works well for me.
