FECKING FLEXI LEADS!!!!!!!

Took little man to the park this evening, there were two other kids running about with a ball, outside the parky bit.
A group of three came in with a dog which i thought was off the lead. Well it makes a beeline for the two kids and runs for their ball, all of a sudded little kid one falls over and cries quite a bit, his mum goes over and you can see the dog was actually on a flexi and the stringy bit has caught around the back of this kids legs and burned him, bless. Dog is tangled up and finally the owner wanders over and takes the dog away. Owner does the typical ''oh sorrry, he just wanted to play'' mother smiles and says 'ahh thats okay, hes fine' (to be fair i would of gone bonkers). anyway our playtime winds down and we pile into the car and begin to drive out of the park.

Dog walker group is walking back towards us, they didnt get off the road as they were busy chatting, but i had plenty of room so very s-l-o-w-l-y drove past only to very vaguely notice that the guy is holding a flexi lead handle and its pointing behind him out towards my car and there is no dog with them now.

BRAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

His fecking terrier thing is the other side of my car pissing up the hedge which bends with the road and hid the dog completely.
now im that shaken and fuming that i cant even yell or rant, OH is sat next to me saying 'just be calm-chill'. The bloke looks at me and i say through gritted teeth.''do you know where your dog is?'..

Well they all look pretty panicked and start doing that searching around their feet, then Fido, having finished his wee trots out in front of the car, stops in the middle of the road and then trots back to his owners. I literally just drove off i was that mad.

Those bloody things with their invisible bit of black string!!!
I have yet to see one owner with any semblance of control over a dog whilst connected to those frigging things. ive seen them snap as a dog runs away, ive seen owners like these forget their dog is actually 10 yards behind them, dogs getting tangled up in things... ARRRGGGHHH!!!!

Please can they be outlawed... pretty please?
 
We do have one but it hardly ever gets an airing.....

It's such a flipping pain to use!!! I can't understand why people would want to use one as an everyday lead.....

Id personally have flexi leads banned-and anyone found with one in there ownership to be banned from having dogs....;)

Not only were they not very bright in the location of their dog OP they were probably the first ones to complain-hes on the flexi lead as he has no recall!!:mad::rolleyes:
 
I have one :o, but it only makes an appearance when I am walking Evie in hare country. But I totally agree that generally I hate the things, and the idiots who use them, I too have nearly run over a dog that was the opposite side of a car park exit to its owner, and god knows how many times my dogs and I have been scooped up by the things. :mad:
 
The woman who allowed her collies flexi lead to get wrapped around the back legs of my friends horse was left in no doubt as to her lack of brain cells in this department. Of course the dog who "dosent like horses" was kept in tight control on our approach (not). How my friend or myself resisted the urge to resort to violence (not to the dog) I will never know, but if ever I see her again I will personally hog tie her and drag her for several yards whilst stomping on her head to be sure she gets the message!
 
Grr, flexi leads, grr!

I was at a flyball demo yesterday and the main arena was square, we had to put the flyball boxes just inside the ring and even then we only had a 35' run back area (I usually let Skye go from about 37' back and I know some dogs on the team go from about 40'). When we did the races, 3 times a couple of Westie's on flexis came into the ring in front of the flyball box, it put the 3 dogs off!!!

I hate seeing dogs walked along the pavement on a flexi by a road, it's so easy for them to become unlocked and the dog run in the road.

I do think flexi's have their place, but that is over a park and then only away from other dogs and people, so they don't get tangled.
 
I walk dex on a Flexi- WHEN we get to the park/woods etc. On roads etc he is on a short lead- cant be having him leaping into roads, at people etc.
 
I know this will make you all cross... but what's wrong with them? :o:o

I used to walk my little spitz on a little flexi lead, I found it great.. It was easy to 'reel' her in when other dogs were around, in the same way that I haul Tyson in on his long line when other dogs approach.. and it was a similar length. Little dog never pulled and just trotted around on the end of her lead as she pleased, then I would call her to me, and when she ignored me, I could reel the little madam in!

Would be pointless trying to use one on Tyson and he pulls on his lead and doesn't respect what I say anyway... hauling him in using a big chunk of plastic would be really hard... hense the long line - but why are the leads themselves so bad?
I would have thought on the right dog, if used by people with comon sense, they wouldnt cause anyone a problem?

I've always used them, BUT the tape ones not the string ones. They hurt a bit less when they saw through your tendons. :D I always keep them locked at the shortest when on a road or anything. Very useful for field walks with a dog that can't be let offlead. I tried a long line but got fed up with it trailing in crap. :)
 
I use them daily - but they are Flexi Giants, all tape, rated to 50kg+ plus, one dog and one flexi per person and used only in the wide open where we are unlikely to meet other people or dogs.

There's a numpty round here who walks two bolshy adolescent labs on the thin string kind, one in each hand - three times now one or both of them has pulled the thing out of his hand to come and leap all over my (on-lead) dogs, and still he persists in using the bloody things! I had a bit of a rage on the most recent occasion and now if he sees us he turns around and runs the other way. :o

I don't know which are worse flexi leads or flexi lungelines- I know both are dangerous. I 'burnt' my young son's face once with the flexi rope when my dog hurtled off accross the path of him on his little bike. I felt freadful and had to send a note into school saying what this horrible facial injury was! I have heard dreadful things about flexi lungelines - can you imagine your horse breaking away with a very large noisy plastic container/handle in tow! Ridiculous design and idea.
 
The tape isnt SO bad because at least you can see it, i think you can get hi vis ones which would be best.

I suppose instead of blaming the lead i could blame the owners, but if they werent made available to them in the first place.
 
Admittedly I have NEVER liked them and thought they should be banned. However now with Buddy ( new rescue dog slightly dog aggressive) I saw no choice so got a reflective tape one for dogs upto 60kg - Buddy is 18kg :o It gives him some freedom in the park but hoping one day we can abandon it :p
