And, while I'm in a fighting mood - is your horse really 8ft long or has it suffered from the same squishy disease that affected Dubble's head for a while?

My only concern about the hatless riders is the amount they are going to cost the NHS and Social Services should they be injured rather than killed. It is very expensive to care for those who suffer from brain injuries.

Good point! Perhaps we should encourage them to ride tall horses on concrete surfaces?

Hear hear - buy a ventair!
Eww, borrowing someone else's hat do you mean? That's rude, and anyway, my head sweats a LOT when I ride, why would I want to inflict that on someone else?!

I ride in a hat with vents in hot weather. You hardly know it is there and my head doesn't get hot at all.
At work when we will ride up to 5 horses one after the other, I try not to take my hat off inbetween that way you don't notice how sweaty it is. There is nothing worse then putting on a sweaty hat.

Will someone please fight with Shilasdair - I'm off to poo pick if not as it's just no fun!
*runs off to get ready in case Shilasdair picks on me!*

I ride in Spain and none of the locals wear hats -they thought mine was amusing ! However since seeing my children with hats many of them have bought them for their children .

Deffinitely, (sp) Might be going to stay with a friend soon, Im taking my riding hat incase, Ill wear it if I get to ride or if Im working on ground.

My hat makes me sweat like a pig, A shower sorts it out, but when your brains on the pavement, you need a lot more than a shower......

Imo.

Yeh ok its personal choice, but just think before you get on without your hat:

The dealer near me always used to ride round without a hat, we always said it was only a matter of time.... and where did she end up? Only being air lifted to hospital after falling off, cracking her skull and having to have it drilled to relieve the blood pressure in her brain. That was about 5 months+ ago. We saw her again for the first time last week, and funnily enough, she was wearing her hat...

I'm not fighting with her - she might barbecue another of my donkeys

Admits to not always wear a hat when schooling

Can I join in please? I always wear a hat, I insist on my liveries wearing a hat on my premises but apart from that I feel its personal choice. BUT!! I wish everyone would wear hiviz when hacking! If you're not bothered too much about your personal safety, think of your horses!

I wouldnt dream of riding without my hat on...all it would take is some freak accident and Id be gone..I can handle a broken arm or leg but I quite like my head
laugh.gif

i have to admit that a few years ago when I was working on a dressage yard I used to always school without a hat - but would hack with one. But these days (probably something to do with having a string of youngsters!!!) I pretty much permanently have my hat stuck to my head.

And for those who are really funny about sweaty heads - just get a second hat! Then you can always have a dry hat to put on. That and find a good place to dangle your hat to dry it well. If your tack room has a tendancy to be a bit damp take it with you and hang it up at home.
