Why have I ended up with such difficult dogs?
Eldest… neurotic, always has been nervy but worse with age. Now cannot go through a gateway without major jollying.
Next… pretty easy but won’t pee alone 🙄
Next… hangs behind and eats rubbish constantly. Acorns/dog poo/ anything.
Next… high maintenance diet wise and destroys his kennel if breakfast is ‘late’. He woke up early today as next door is lambing and has trashed half his raised bed. (The wooden bit).
Youngest… I can’t cope at all.

I want to go back to having 2 enjoyable dogs.

Sadly not. I’m the common denominator 😁
I’ve realised once you’ve got one weird one…the others after end up a bit weird by proxy/end up a bit weird cause you’re life is a bit weird because of the weird one.
The dogs I had when the Sherman tank/mini Mugabe joined us were normal, as was our dog related life. The dogs which have came since she came, less so. In our case it’s a mix of her being weird and us probably being weirder to accommodate her….’character’. She’s really demanding so life has to be really regimented to manage her dictator ways/to stop her darkness from manifesting into a corporal form too much, as a result the other two are a little neurotic about stuff that previous dogs never cared about/id never have given thought to.

It was at this point all those years ago i should have known, everything was about to change.
If it helps, mine before were the type of dogs people met and decided they wanted dogs because of. Now, I tell them it’s fine to find them annoying because I love them, and even I think they’re a bunch of pricks.

Get yourself a Whippet and all your other dogs will look angelic 😁
Or a JRT, they truly are the most annoying, frustrating dogs ever.

But GS is right dogs that you haven't started yourself are always more difficult than those you have (except for the JRTs you started yourself).
I often think that the time of year when theyvare born makes a difference, too, because their earliest experiences differ according to seasons/weather.

If it makes you feel any better mine has spent more time at various vets in the past month than he has at home I think!

I blame all his oddness (behaviourally anyway!) on growing up with the cat whose oddness I obviously blame on whatever trauma he suffered as a street kitten. (And again I blamed the absolute insanity of previous cat on his life as a stray / whatever had happened to him when he lost his leg!). Not quite sure how long I can keep this up before admitting the corrupting factor is me! (Been forced to admit it with the horses as a few people have called me out on it!)

Tell you what, let’s do a gundog swap session for a bit - you have MrStR’s five, and he can have all yours bar the beagle. Yours will be horrified at living en masse in one kennel, and his will be delighted at seeing the inside of a house (which I expect they will demolish). Anything that isn’t yet steady to gunshot will be quite soon.

Note this is between you and Mr StR, nothing to do with me. 🤣🤣🤣

I couldn’t cope with his for a minute… you are putting my troubles in perspective 😂

I’ve got over myself and all is forgiven.
Apart from the hour a day of group walk the pup is an angel. So I will now walk her and Gutsy Goffin seperately so I can concentrate. Then walk the others so they can chill and enjoy themselves (that includes OH 😁).
Decided as the pup thinks she’s a spaniel I shall train her like one and the turn whistle is on the nail.
Love them all really.

All my normal dogs were raised by other people 🤣

That explains mine!

Seriously, Edgar, who just turned a year, wouldn't be such an untrained hellion if my mother's health hadn't tanked while I was on a layover. I had my cute little puppy and people were greeting him and I get the call. After 2 of her daughters offered to take her to the ER she goes by ambulance.
Enough whining.

Get a springer! Not a pick of bother, although my bil did say that he now realises that his dog's recall (18 months working bred springer, quel surprise) is actually quite good after having ours for a whole day. 🤣 Dunno what he means! I have zero bother. Maybe it's the teacher voice.

Ours have recently decided that the airfryer is not to be tolerated and leave the room at the first beep.

As lovely Aunty B used to say 'They're all different'.
