I have been offered a loan of a 13.2 pony that sounds great in every way, except that it is 13.2!

I am only 5.2 and light enough so not worried in that regard but i know i will probably put up with crap when i take her out. I don't care as she will be my 'project' for a while, but as she sounds perfect for me should i just go for it if it all works ot and ignore the comments/looks??

Stories/pics/tips that are encouraging are most welcome!

I would search for previous threads on this subject, there is also a picture thread in the photo gallery. It's a topic that really has been done to death on here.

Not sure what you mean about "putting up with crap" when you're out. Maybe I've just been lucky (and I haven't taken my lad out very much) but as the adult 5'8" owner of a 13.3hh Fell I've not had a problem. In showing it's all adults on ponies so it's the norm and when I moved him to my very dressage and hunting oriented livery yard (which I was a bit concerned about) no one batted an eyelid - all I get is loads of people telling me how cute he is :D (which he is, so I don't have a problem with that).

The only problem I have is that people think he's so sweet and innocent thhat they don't believe me that he can be naughty. He managed to boot me in the thigh the other day and my mother told me I must have annoyed him and I should be nice!

I ride a selection of ponies and horses for other people; current 'littlest' is about 11/11.1hh and the largest is 17.2hh. I have never had a negative comment about riding a pony although have had a few about riding the bigger ones - doesn't help that I look much younger than I am and people assume I'm a child/teenager (I'm 30  )

Go for it! :D

I get the same - are you juniors or seniors? - errr I'm 24! Though on forums people tend to assume that I am much older, and for some reason, male

I avoided that on here by posting photos, which I hope proclaim otherwise ;) :D

I've just turned 29 but have a baby face esp with a riding ht on so i can understand what you mean!

I've heard some sarky comments on the past, i think it is jealousy sometimes that they would look so gangly on a pony and therefore have less choice to ride!

Decided that i am going to go and have a look, doesn't matter the size etc if you get on well and are having fun.

If it helps I am about 5ft7 & one of mine is 13.3, be it he is a very chunky lad

This is me on him

i do mounted games so have a couple of ponies (13.3-14.1hh), i may be 21, but i love riding them and have great fun with them but it does get arkward at local shows as if i want to jump i have to jump in ponies and beating little kids just looks weird so we often have to withdraw :( they still love it though, and couldn't be ridden by "real" kids so its the best of both worlds!

At 5'2 I really doubt that you will look big at all on a 13.2h pony. I am just over 5'5 and am getting a 12.3h pony! People seem to have skewed ideas of what looks right because we're so used to seeing riders these days ride huge horses. I personally think a small rider on a big horse looks just as silly as a tall rider on a small pony!

Here is the lovely lady who's coming to me on LWVTB in January

Yes, if you're used to riders being on big horses I look big on her, but she takes up my leg well and I see no problem with our match :)

I have no issues about riding ponies and thankfully neither do my almost adult daughters. I think the worst offenders for being a bit sarky about it are the pony club teenagers who think as soon as you're more than 13 you have to be on a 16hh+ and they wouldn't be seen dead on 'ponies'. Luckily in our household we love our ponies and have absolutely no desire to trade them in for bigger/flashier models. Enjoy what you have and so long as you aren't grossly too big to cause the pony harm, don't worry about what people might or might not be saying/thinking.

exactly the same for me! im 5ft8 and Fell 13.2hh, everyone thinks hes adorable but my god he can move!

I have a 14.3 which nearly counts, and my new pony is 14hh. he is a chunk and I am only 5ft2, but Sharer (Shiny-ISH) is 5ft10 and she doesn't look at all big on him. I love them, they do everything a big horse does, only more fun.
