I've been away all weekend on bridesmaid duty for my best friend, on Thursday night Gypsy my cat didn't come home, my brother was staying at mine looming after dogs from Friday, he put tuna out for her but it hasn't been touched, I'm really worried about her, will be putting posters up around my village later, this is a pointless post, but if anyone has any suggestions on what I can do I'd be really grateful. I've knocked on doors today and walked the entire village, she doesn't have a collar as she just takes them off, but is microchipped, her she is, miss her so much

Just to say, one of mine was missing for a week once, I also put posters up, walked the entire neighborhood, turns out she was having a week out camping under the neighbours shed!

She also went missing for 4 days when it snowed and when I went calling and looking for her she heard me and came running to follow me home!

Although I will add, you do get funny looks calling for your cat very loudly while wandering the streets

Try not to worry too soon!

When my cat disappeared after we moved house I went out wearing the t-shirt I'd been wearing in bed, in hopes that she'd follow the smell home, she turned up again a few days later!

Hope you find Gypsy

Cats do seem to take themselves off if there is any change in their routine. She will probably turn up when she has stopped sulking at you leaving her. Putting posters up is a good idea, and perhaps contact local vets just in case she has been injured and taken there. Fingers crossed she will soon be back.

Toby (below) went missing for over a week when I went away on hols (despite someone in the house.....).

I wasn't too worried, as he can be a bit of a wanderer. However, a very nice couple put a note up in our local shop asking if anyone recognised 'this' cat.

Yep, it was Toby - well cared for, and very happy in his 'new' house. Little bugger.

I went round and collected him and kept him for a few days, and his wandering seems to have stopped.

I was on the verge of putting notices up though, OP. And in your shoes would put them up in the local shop etc....

Hope Mog turns up for you soon.

I lost my cat for 4 days over the Royal Wedding Bank holiday weekend.
I made flyers, asking people to check sheds and outbuildings with a photo (3 to an A4 sheet), I also said he was on regular medication (he is in summer due to allergies) and I went to every single properties letterbox - about 200 houses in total.
I also went out first thing, and last thing at night calling him in the vicinity.
As a rule cats don't tend to go far, however if they are ill or injured they will hide.

I had finished leafletting at 9:40pm on the Monday night (it took me a few hours each day), and went out calling again. Just as I got back to the house, i nipped back out to get the dog (who was lagging on the drive) and saw my missing cat appear at the end of the road looking very sorry for himself.
Emergency trip to the vets that night, indicated he was very sore and had been in an RTA, so left him quiet the following day as we couldn't find any areas of pain/broken bones or marks on him.
However he then pee'd blood (heart failure moment for me), so back to the vets for bloods and x-rays which confirmed severe liver damage due to trauma as he'd been hit by a car. He's on the road to recovery, and after a week his liver reading had come down from 3000 to 200 (a normal cat is 120 max)

I suspect he was hit early hours of Friday morning, as I had started to call him from Friday evening. I was also concerned that as it was the bank holiday he was shut in somewhere. I now suspect he hid for the duration, and heard me calling in the dark on the Monday evening.

Don't lose heart, cats can disappear for weeks and come home, i'm sure yours will turn up, its a real worry when they do this.
Really hope you kitty comes home very soon.
In the meantime, ring vets, rescues etc. and register your cat on some of the websites, postering (that I know you're going to do) is also a great idea.

I lost mine for ten days - the worst ten days of my life as he's my dearest and most precious companion. I turned the whole village upside down and eventually found him.

Most cats are more capable than mine and come home of their own accord, but do ask all your neighbours to look in their sheds, garages and greenhouses just in case she has got shut in.

I know how desperate you must be feeling. Let us know when she comes home.

Hmm...Some cats do seem to take offense at a change in their routine.

One of mine refuses to 'speak' to me for days if I dare go away for the weekend, only when he thinks he's punished me enough does he make friends again

I'm sure she'll turn up soon

A friend of mine was rung by a vets office 5 miles away this week saying they had her cat (scanned his chip - he arrived as an injured stray). He had been missing since SEPTEMBER!
Hope your cat is home soon, try not to worry too much, they are real survivors.

Thanks everyone, i hope she turns up soon, its just so unusual, its not unusual for me to be away and my brother being in the house. I just hope someone has taken her in will see my flyers and get in touch, I'm missing her so much!

Not sure if anyone has suggested this already, but its not a bad idea to knock on peoples doors and ask if you can look in their sheds etc, amazing how easy it is to lock a cat in. Sure she will turn up soon xx fingers crossed!

If you can cope with looking like a total muppet," found" one of our cats after two weeks missing as follows:

Hack round village, surrounding lanes etc bellowing cat's name. Cat returned home and given time span, vet suggested he had probably been driven off by another cat, but stayed within range of my hollering!

Most other inhabitants of the village will think you are nuts, but you will hopefully get you cat back.

Do check hedgerows if you are near a road. If a cat is even slightly injured they tend to hide up. If you walk and call that may help.
Good luck

I really feel for you.:( When I was a child, one of our cats went missing for three weeks. One morning, he was sat outside the back door, very hungry but otherwise fine. Hope you get him back soon:)

Am sorry to hear your cat has gone missing .... some advice we were once given from Cats Protection when one of ours went walkabout is to leave the cat litter tray outside (preferably in a used state) as cats can get their own smell from a long way off.

I hope you find your cat soon

Thanks for all your replies, thankfully Gypsy has turned up this evening, safe and sound, a little skinny, but otherwise fine, now curled up in her bed after wolfing her dinner down!

Yay, the post I've been waiting for.:D
Her picture reminds me so much of our old cat Tim, he didn't come in one night and very sadly I found him dead on the road the next day, but I didn't want to say that while Gypsy was still missing.

my cat went missing for three weeks last summer, think she got chased by a dog then didnt know where she was (recently moved there) she picked a much nicer house a bout 3 miles away to live in, ran in and sat on the sofa next to the son and the nice lady took her to the vets and scanned her. i couldnt believe it, i thought she was gone for good.
Also, my old cat stayed living with my mum when i went to uni, when i moved out of halls i brought him with me (wasnt going to go back to that house) and some old lady over the road was distraught because she thought her 'part-time' cat had died!!! he secretly had two houses!! breakfast at our house, brunch over the road, lunch at ours, evening meal over the road.... sneaky lil' sucker!!! :D
