OK - so I fell over while out walking with my brother back in November (don't ask - two left feet) and in my desperate attempt to stay upright scraped my right hand quite badly along some chicken wire. Looked like I'd taken a cheese grater to it - now have some rather fetching scars. I noticed, though, that the base of my thumb (where the scars are) was still quite sore.

Once I moved Kal and had to muck out again (after 6 months of not picking up a muck fork!), I noticed the soreness in my hand was a tad more pronounced, but I had a new pain on my right forearm - not like regular soreness in a muscle not used to being worked - sharper.

When I fell off the other week, my right arm and hand were both really sore - I couldn't grip anything and I couldn't lift my arm above my shoulder (or even approaching that) - the pain is now connected between my hand, through my wrist, up my forearm and to my bicep. My thumb hurts to flex it . . . but isn't as sore as it was (but I would have expected more of an improvement after a week and a half), but the pain in my wrist, forearm and bicep is worse.

So - it could be a nagging repetitive strain injury - it could be a trapped nerve. I don't think I've broken anything, but damn it hurts.

I HATE doctors . . . and will put off going until my right arm pretty much drops off . . . so until then, any of you any ideas?

I would definatley get it checked out. If there is any sign of redness you may have an infection. Are you up to date on tetanus jabs? Hopefully just an injury that needs a bit of time to heal. Even so get yourself off to the doc's.

Scar tissue internally at the wrist compressing the medial nerve?

Depends how significant your injury is.. November is a long time ago for an infection but not impossible..

I'd really recommend getting a referral from your gp for an X-ray or physio at least..

get to a Dr! my uncle fell ski-ing and hurt his hand and thumb, kept saying it was ok but 6 months later was still getting pains and stiffness so aunty dragged him off to Dr. one x-ray later and broken thumb is diagnosed!

I think that you should go to see a doctor as soon as possible. If there is an infection in there and if it has started to travel up you arm you need a course of strong antibiotics. If you leave it things could turn much worse.

There's no redness or particular swelling so I'm pretty confident there's no infection . . . and I am up-to-date with my tetanus so no worries there. I know this sounds pathetic, but I'm pretty sure the doc will tell me to rest it . . . no chance there with a horse on DIY livery. Not mucking out simply isn't an option :(.

If it's still giving me a problem tomorrow, I'll consider going to the docs. For now Nurofen is taking the edge off, but I'm not pain free.

You know, this rings bells. Many years ago (well before I was married so at least 20 years) I broke a couple of tiny bones in my hand by bracing myself (heel of hand on steering wheel/elbow locked) when I was rear ended (saw it coming). I've been experiencing weird, "sparky" nervy sensations in my hand when I twist/turn it a certain way for a few months now (even before November) and I wonder if I've just serially aggravated an old injury?

Perhaps it is x-ray time . . . ho hum. Do NOT want a cast or a splint. MUST continue Kali's (and my) education . . . now that we're on a roll I don't want to stop . . .
