So wanted to do some grid work tonight (tiny x poles) as he hasn't been picking his feet up properly...i know i jumped yesterday but i felt it was the right thing to do

please don't tell me off!!!! I was obviously 'playing' with him too much and changing his stride because he kept knocking down the last part of the grid....SO after he did this a couple of times i said to mum that i was going to try something and if it didn't work then it doesn't matter!! I almost had no contact, let him do it all by himself (except the direction!) and he cleared it...without knocking it down!! So then tried what i would normally do, he knocked the last one down!! I again let him do it by himself and he didn't knock it down!!! I didn't think that he would be able to do this....i don't give him enough credit for what he does and what he is still doing for my confidence!!! I now have to let him take control in some situations, because, like tonight, he has shown he does have a sensible side!!

Oh and i fell off!!!

I walked back into the courtyard (where Rhapsody was) she trotted up to us and stood right by Hemir, if i had tried to get off i would have kicked her. So i pushed her gently to move her over (i had no stirups at this point)....Hemir bent down to scratch his knee and as he did this Rhapsody moved and i fell off over his shoulder but landed on my feet!! It was like they had planned it

ps: has anyone got any ideas on how to re-balance him? I know this sounds strange but in trot and canter, when circling (sp!), he isn't very balanced, he used to be then had 4 months of hacking and now isn't very balanced

Could this be because he is ever-so slightly lame.....didn't notice anything whilst i was riding tonight but looking at the videos he is a little bit

and last week he had a few days off because he went lame

thanks

Its nice to know your horse can cope without you isn't it?

Why is/was he lame? that would cause him to become unbalanced. otherwise I'm afraid its back to schooling on the flat

and of course you could do some lunging with side reins. same old same old realy

It is when he only started jumping last year...aged 10!!

We don't know whay he hw was / is lame, there was no swelling or heat in his foot, leg, shoulder. I don't mind schooling on the flat...had to do 6 months of schooling when he arrived last year as he couldn't do anything!!! He's not the best at lunging but i could try that! thanks
