sorry for my FB friends who have already been fabulously supportive, but I had to make the final decision for the most beautiful greyhound in the world tonight....

Islay would have been 14 years old on 5th July, and she was truly like the cat with nine lives - old timers will remember my posts over the past 9 years that I was lucky enough to own her, Islay tried to drown herself in a river, Islay chased a hare in Scotland when I was staying with a HHOer and broke a toe, Islay got trodden on by my horse (!!!) and had a broken foot, Islay chased another dog in the forest (!!! again!) and broke a toe.....

I loved her more than words can ever say, and I am in no way ashamed to say I loved her more than anything or anyone in the world. I was very very proud and privileged to have adopted her and loved her for the past 9 years.

Give your dogs an extra hug tonight xx
 
So sorry. They leave such a hole in our hearts and lives, but we are the better for having had them. RIP beautiful girl, and hugs to you. Xx
 
Oh god, I am so sorry. Hadn't seen this on facebook.

I'm truly gutted for you as the way you have always spoken of her makes love just jump off the page.

So sorry Levrier. Your posts have made me think about adopting a greyhound many times. You gave her a great life.
 
Thank you all for your lovely comments, they are very much appreciated. I cried all the way to work today but I know my tears are only for myself, Islay is causing havoc chasing cats and enjoying herself up there :)
 
I am so sorry Levrier :( It is the hardest decision but you must take comfort from what a wonderful life Islay had with you.
