I lost my mare yesterday - can anyone help?

A bit of good news from the yard, he is finally starting to take diluted milk out of a bucket. I'm so relieved. Onwards and upwards.

Thanks again everyone, I'm really touched by your kind replies.

I am so very sorry for you and all involved with the loss of your lovely mare. I wish you the very best of luck rearing him and sending lots of healing vibes to you all. xx

Big hugs to you and loads of vibes for the foalie xxx

I saw this on Horse quest but I think this might be the organisation you have already contacted?

Foaling Crisis Bureau

"Bringing Mum's & Babies Together"

The Foaling Crisis Bureau is a free advertising service for breeders with orphan Foals or prospective Foster Mares

With the stud season upon us, sadly many breeders will have the misfortune to lose a mare or foal. At this traumatic time it can be very difficult to find a suitable foster “Mum” for orphans or let anyone know that you have a suitable mare

The Foaling Crisis Bureau is located at www.foalingcrisisbureau.co.uk or through www.horsequest.co.uk the UK’s Leading Equine Sales Site

It is a fast service – Details can go on line within 2 hours – Which costs nothing and could mean the difference between bottle feeding and natural rearing. We hope that breeders will use the Foaling Crisis Bureau not just for Orphans but will offer their mares as Foster mothers

Very sad to hear about your mare, I was going to suggest trying to get him to drink out of a bucket asap, it will help enormously, he will settle soon, but please keep us posted on how you get on, it might worth ringing around a couple of local studs to see if they have any foster mares or they are most likely to know if there are.
Good Luck

Oh hun, so sorry to hear of your sad loss.
I can't help you at all, but am thinking of you.
Good luck with your beautiful foalie, and keep us updated with his progress
Huge hugs to you both
RIP little mare xx

Wish I could help but unfortunately dont know of any foster mums at present.

So very sorry to hear about your mare. It is always sad to lose any animal but worse when it cannot be explained.

Oh no - I am so sorry to hear about this...I was admiring your pics last week and remember you mentioning people thought your mare was a stallion cause she was so striking...so sorry to hear the news...
My horse was hand reared and has done him so much good, he is relaxed around everything and loves people...
Thought it might be worth putting an ad up in the local saddlery asking for a foster mum, or even speak to local studs as you might have some luck....
So sorry for your lose....my thoughts are with you...
hugs.....xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

try the chap at fellponysite.com in wales - he's on the national fell pony council and as your mare was a fell he may help

also - there is a gene in fells that mean the foals can die young and so he may have or know of another fell breeder that has lost a foal

good luck

Im so sorry to hear about your mare, im sorry i am unable to offer any help re foster mares, but i hope your little foal continues to do well... thinking of you at this sad time

so sorry to hear this news very sad big hugs for you and the little one! could you get him a friend to keep him company in the stable? dont know if thiss would work till he is a bit older tho!

Oh Anakin, I am so sorry. How sad for this to happen. Suzy was very beautiful and will now live on in your lovely little foal - try to be strong for him.

I would keep trying to find a foster mother as he is so young right now. Very best of luck.

I'm so sorry to hear of your sudden and tragic loss. I keep my horses at a stud farm. About two weeks ago, one of their mares died from a heart attack leaving behind a 4 week old foal. They bottle fed her and turned her out with another mare. The foal is doing really well. Good luck xxxxxxxx p.s. If you want more info, I am happy to speak to my YO on your behalf.

Just to say I am so sorry, if I still had Jemima I would have lent her to you - she is always in milk and loves babies.

Hope all goes well with the little chap and with the breeding X he will be stunning when older - I love both the breeds you used.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss

I expected to read that maybe you had lost your mare as in escaped from a field not that she had been found dead. I am so very, very sorry for you

The national foaling bank set up by Johanna Vardon as mentioned by Catherine would be a very good idea.
