On Saturday morning I lost my wonderful Pinto to peritonitis after he seemingly recovered from a severe colic.

He had been in hospital for more than a week, and all arrangements had been made to bring him home on Friday when he very suddenly developed a fever and deteriorated rapidly.

I feel utterly bereft.

Hugs honey. Never easy but he is free from pain and running with all the other much loved horses. He looked a beautiful boy. Goodnight, God Bless Pinto. X

:( I know no words can make you feel better, only time will heal your pain but I didn't want to read and run so here's a hug ...

Oh bless you, I am so sorry, It is barely a month now since I lost my lovely lad, so I know how you are feeling. I know you are hurting, and how hard it is, but try to remember the good times. Many of us here have been through the same, and we all feel for you. (((big hugs)))x
RIP beautiful boy x

So sorry to read this. Nothing I can say will help but sending a huge hug. I really know how you feel and can only promise that time will help although you will never forget. Look after yourself xxxx

Thank you :)

It was just such a shock after his almost miraculous recovery. He was so desparately ill with the colic last Friday when he was first admitted i don't think I breathed for 3 days.

Then he improved so much he was almost discharged on Thursday, except I couldn't organise transport until the Friday. Even Friday morning the vets wre pretty blase about the mild fever he had saying he would only need antibiotics over the weekend and he could go home on Monday instead.

Just over 24 hours later he was gone.

I have absolute confidence that the vets did absolutely everything the could, the only regret I have is that the vet really left it too late to call me on Saturday morning, and by the time I got to the clinic Pinto was so poorly he couldn't stand. It is not the last memory of him I would have wished for.

He had to be PTS in the box as he couldn't be moved to the theatre, which afforded me some privacy afterwards.

I have a lovely long mane plait and 7 wonderful years of memories.

So sorry, it is always a shock when you think they are on the mend. Be nice to yourself for as long as it takes, and remember it is okay to grieve. The good memories will take over in time.

How sad for you - at least you could say goodbye. Losing a horse is the most awful pain in your heart. Hugs to you from me (())

So very sorry to hear of your sad loss just when things were looking so positive for him. You have all my thoughts and sympathy. I lost my wee mare, very suddenly, seven weeks ago and am still struggling to come to terms with it. Its just horrible. :(

I'm so very sorry for your loss, I know how it feels to have a horse improve then suddenly go downhill again, it's utterly heartbreaking. Take some time to yourself and I hope that soon you can start to enjoy the wonderful memories that you have of your time with Pinto.

Rest in peace, Pinto xxx

So very sorry to hear this. I lost one of my boys the day he was finally able to come home after surviving a ton of complications following surgery and another due to toxic shock following colic surgery.

I do understand how you are feeling but please don't dwell on his final moments but focus on the good times.

I am so sorry to read this. :( I have gone cold just reading it. Very sad news indeed, you are in my thoughts today. RIP beautiful horse. xxx

So sorry, especially when it looked as though things were improving.

Hope the sadness fades with time until you are left with all the good memories.
