A pointless thread really but I don't appreciate my dog enough sometimes. She is a working sheepdog but we only have 350 ewes so she is also a pet as there isn't always much for her to do.
We also have another collie whom isn't always the best example of her breed and two unruly terriers. I usually walk them on the farm and they all charge around as a crazy pack having a great time but ignoring me.
Anyway I am sick of pushing the pram through the mud at nap time so decided yesterday to go down the road, we live on a single track road which should be very quiet but it's a rat run so can be busy. Because of this I only took Meg as she does as she is told when she on her own!
Yesterday I made her lie down whenever a car came (she is off lead, as a working collie she follows instructions very well and quickly) Today she did it every time without being asked, and as it was windy she was hearing them before me giving me chance to get the pram off the road.
I had forgotten how quickly they learn. She is my favourite but don't tell the others! Any ramble over.

I absolutely adored my border collie cross, Jet. She died 2 years ago in January and has left a void that will never be filled. She was very obedient too. I could happily walk her off the lead down busy roads and she would look to me for every command, whether that was, sit, lie stay etc etc. She would never wonder too far from me even when in open fields. She would put herself between me and any starngers that were passing or were hanging around and even my daughters first word was 'Jet'!. We now have a Dalmatian whome i love too, but for very different reasons, but Jet will always have my heart :-)

What a lovely post! I have a border collie cross and he is amazingly obedient too. He still learns new things so quickly even though at 12 he's getting an old boy now.

When he was younger I taught him to come to my heel when cars came up the lane and same as the other poster he still does this without fail before I even hear the car coming. He also flies back to me whatever he is doing as soon as someone appears and puts himself between me and them.

He's a wonderful dog and a great companion :)

Aww they are such special dogs. I remember the first we had as a pet when I was about 12 was amazing at distance hand signals and I once got him to lie down at the side of the road about 100 metres from me as a police car went past just by waving my arms at him. I was a very proud child when the policeman stopped to compliment me on my well trained dog.
