Bit of a soppy one really, but I've had to go through the mill with my boy having had bad laminitis last year. He was the first out of 6 (in 20 years of ownership) to have ever needed the vet- and he had a few visits plus x-rays! The trimmer was so pleased with his progress this Tuesday and I do weekly trims on his heels now too.
Anyway, today I hopped onboard for our 20min hack every 2 weeks or so. He does groundwork for the other 3/4 days a week. He felt the best that he had done since before April 16. He was more forward than usual, took himself to the mounting block (I know, he's more dog than horse) but was as bold as ever and sensible. I bought him as a troubled 4-year-old nearly 4 years ago and we just clicked straight away- my soul horse (lol). After nearly losing him and constantly worrying whether he would ever have a quality of life again. Then feeling how well he is now after years of careful training and better management, watching him bolt around his track with my other pony as well just means a lot after the months of nursing and worry. He might not have been anything 'special' before I bought him, or be anything special to anyone else, but he's really special to me.

Now it's your turn!

I love my horse because she only comes when I call her, she always nuzzles my face, she only ever takes food from me with her lips, she is imo the most beautiful horse ever, she is kind and loving (with me anyway), she played football with me, she gives little snuffly sighs when you brush her, when you bring her hay you get a nice moustachey kiss on the neck, she doesn't need any food except hay and grass, her mane is long and flowing, she has lovely paces and finally she is the lovliest horse on the planet who I love with all my heart and I think its reciprocated.
One grumble though, can someone tell her that there is no need to bite any man that comes near her! (Just to check for treats of course);)

He didn't manage to bite a chunk out of me today.

He tried, he was half-hearted, he failed. That's a big plus in my book :)

(And a big plus in the local hospital's A&E book too ...)

Because a yardmate (who often brings him in of an evening) commented tonight on how much he's changed in a few months & is coming on so well.
He's just turning into a lovely pony, pleasant to be with, clever, cute, & mine.

I love my horses because as a child I loved horses but was never in a position to have one and thought I never would, now I look out of my kitchen window at my own fields and can see my little herd of six happy, healthy horses in various sizes, shapes and colours and they make me smile every day.

I love my horse because of how cheeky he is. He has multiple personalities but you can't help but love him. He is so kind and quite well behaved most of the time. He stood still yesterday while I basically had to hack at his tail as it had gone from knot free one day to full of knots the next. It can't have been nice no matter how much I tried not to pull at it yet he stood there and took it without even lifting a leg once or moving away. He got some treats for being good as he should have kicked me for it really. To me that just shows how nice he really is, he has his bad days sure, but overall he is a very happy, cheeky, loving horse. My physio for him yesterday said he is one of her favourites and she would take him home if she could, just because of his cheekiness. He constantly watches what she is doing and sticks his head in between her arms when he is demanding his face be massaged next. He will always make me laugh especially when he does his trick of get a mouthful of water and dump it on an unsuspecting person.

I love my horses because whenever I'm with them nothing else matters. All my worries and anxiety just disappear, they keep me sane and happy no matter what else is going on.

I love my horse because he hates me less than the cat (he doesn't bite me for one...). Also today when he smacked me in the face with his head (in protest at the physio sorting out his tight shoulder) he was kind enough not to break my nose (I have a cold atm so that would just have really sucked)

OUCH!

I love my horse because...

she makes every day a good day
she gives me a reason to get up every morning (i suffer/struggle with mental health and it'd be too easy somedays to not get out of bed)
she loves me unconditionally (as long as I've got food haha...)
she's my best friend
she gives me everything in the world that i ask of her, and then some

ultimately i'm not sure i'd be here if it wasnt for that big stupid magical creature in my paddock <3

she owes me nothing and i owe her the world, even if she does infuriate me to no end some days.

These are so funny. Reminds me of Christmas day not even a month ago, where precious smoochems had an electric shock then proceeded to panic and run me over leaving a stylish looking major bruising situation on my arm which i can still feel... I took him out for a lovely walk the next day though. Madness.

Gosh where to start? I could say because of his handsome looks, lovely paces, beautiful manners and being such an easy horse to manage but what really makes him so lovable is his kind and generous nature and his willingness to put up with a less than perfect rider. IMO he's one in a million but of course I'm biased!

On a serious note, I am similar with my 4- all found me at bad times with my mental health and helped me through. My main help was my dog though, who I had to PTS on Monday and help lost and heart broken without,

Now on a more light hearted note:
I love my old boy because he loves to nuzzle into me and rest his head on my shoulder to ask for an ear scratch, even when I'm trying to get stuff done!

My dotty mare as she can spot my car from a distance- across a 10 acre field. Brining the whole herd over even if it is not time for dinner yet!

My 'pony' who is now 15'1 (woops can't say I have 2 horses and 2 ponies anymore- as if that is less than having 3 horses and one pony any way) as she is so nosey and has to say hi and be involved in everything.

Socks my tank pony- as he is a cuddle monster now- when I got him a few years ago he was nervy and avoided contact. Now he always comes over.

I love my horse because she has given me my confidence to enjoy riding again. She is fun and funny. She loves attention and always comes to the gate for a fuss when she sees me. I keep her at home and my most favourite things are when she watches me watching her through the kitcken window and when she hears me coming out to do the night time check she whinneys when she hears me coming and muzzles my face while i'm skipping out! Like others have said, my horse has no real monetary value but she is totally priceless to me , has bought me joy during a tough year and is a gem of a horse that i'm honoured to have as my own.

Aww lovely thread.

I love that he comes running in from the field.
I love that he stays when I ask and follows when I ask, I love hardly needing a lead rope!
I love that he has such great manners, a true gentleman and makes my other pony look like a little terror :p
I love that he is black and shiny, soooo easy to keep clean :D
I love that he is forward and flashy, powerful and has presance, but really is a big softy.
I love that he always looks after you on board, stands perfectly to be mounted and tries his hardest to get things right.
I love that he can be fired up for a flashy dressage performance, or chilled out on a hack.
I love that he can be left months without being ridden and you get back on and pick up where you left off.
I love that he is sound and never sick or sorry. Never gives me anything to worry about.
I love that he is friendly to other horses, and gets on well with everyone.
I love that he is gorgeous :D
Ok I better stop.. I could be here all day! Sorry!

I also love my pony, because he is the height of nonsense and a proper wee monkey. Pretty too! :D

Because they are absolutely hilarious!

The diva is beyond beautiful, extremely loving, I feel super safe on board and trust her with my life, she will do a lovely dressage test one day and then go blasting around a farm ride the next... she's just the most wonderful person in the world and I worship the very ground she walks on.

The hooligan is stunning, very quirky, has mental health issues (that just makes me love him more), he has the most beautifully soft muzzle that is just the best to kiss, I feel extremely privileged that he lets me ride him because he won't let anyone else, lunging him is like lunging a Boeing 474 and his brain and his legs are generally not connected but he's just brilliant.

It's hard really to put into words what my horses mean to me. They are simply just my whole life, I could not imagine being without them. Even during hard times they really make life worth while.
<<Kevin is a sweetheart, even after the hard time he has had he still remains a kind horse. He is learning that when he talks I will listen. He is starting to trust, it's not been a year yet but he is starting to really wriggle his way into my heart.

Moses is on loan but I still think about him everyday. The loan was the best thing for him and sometimes the horse has to come first , even if it's not what you want.

Ffin is my horse of a lifetime, no doubt of several lifetimes! There is something about having a horse from birth that is special. He will be with me until his final day. He is semi retired but still so full of life. He is kind and steady and talented but still forward going and fun. He is still the most handsome of lads and he is still my bestie:)

I love my horses because having horses made me the person I am.

Growing up I was that horse mad girl desperate for a pony but parents couldn't afford it. I rode anything I could.
For a while I lost my way in life & I was going down a path which was going very much the wrong way.

My need to have a horse & event was so strong, I picked myself up, straightened out & got a good degree & job. The driving force always being able to own a horse.

We are now building our dream house, I look out at my own stables & my fields with my beautiful horses in. I own the sort of horses that I always dreamt of owning, I event, I train with an Olympic medalist, I also have a great career that is interesting!

Everyday I thank my lucky stars that I let my love of horses drive me to where I am.

My feelings too, though I just have one! Oh and today I love him because he actually came when I called AND his face, neck and mane were still mud-free despite not having a neck cover attached to his rug! Little things!

I have the privilege of owning 5 horses, all amazing in their own way...

But the new one, well what can I say? She is totally captivating. I love her because she makes me want to be a better horsewomen, to learn more and be the best I can.

I know that we are going to have a fantastic time together

She also has a brilliant sense of humour and a very kissable nose, which of course helps!

I adore my old boy. He knows what's what. He knows what he wants and, by hook or by crook, he gets it - either by wrapping me round his little finger and me capitulating, or by doing it himself. He certainly hasn't lost his spark, and that's fabulous in my book.

He's retired, costs me the earth in the best quality feed and Prascend, but I don't begrudge a single penny.

He is a true gentleman and his manners are impeccable. I can't fault him, although what I'd do to turn back time and rid him of his arthritis. He's the best horse I've owned in 40 years of horse ownership.
