I've been looking forward to this little local show for months now, I haven't got transport for my boy and he's not a good traveller. So rather than put him in a borrowed trailer which would end up doing more harm than good, I've not taken him anywhere in over a year!

Anyway, I have been looking forward to this local show that I can hack to...but just my luck its been postponed and moved. So now I can't go

So after feeling all disheartened I wasn't really up for my lesson today, and whilst warming up I felt like we were going like crap.

But got going and I had a FANTASTIC lesson...I love my horse, he's SO GOOD and my instructor was quite impressed with how we are improving! Theres still a way to go but believe me its a big difference to when we moved to yard last year. So heres a few pictures (had to blob over my face cus I pull so bad faces!)

We were working on his medium trot at this point, and oh my god I never knew he had such knee action, looks like he's hitting his chin!

we are both improving so much, my riding has improved big time since I started having lessons with current instructor, but I see the pictures and just want to shout at myself: "RELAX YOUR SHOULDERS!!" etc.

You are doing very well and I am sure your instructor will work on things bit by bit. A good way of relaxing your shoulders is to either shrug them at each letter in the school or stroke your horse's neck by running your hand with rein up and down quickly on every 10th stride but make sure you do inside then outside rein as well, this is also good to check that your horse is in self carriage and not leaning on your hands. If I were to be slightly critical I would want to see your legs (in the last photo) further back in line with your ear, shoulder, elbow line so that you can balance him a little better and will also improve your shoulder suppleness but as I said, from the pics you are doing very well indeed. Well done to both of you!

Thank you Dressage_Babe, I have always been rubbish with my shoulders its one of those bad habits I have (amongst others) I try and roll them back every so often, but I do forget.

This was my lower leg position in May, so you can see its definately getting better. I think I've gone down 4 stirrup holes since then:
