I went to see Ethel yesterday for the first time since Tuesday when I had my accident and had been pretty much house bound unless I managed to persuade someone to take me out somewhere. I work about 30 mins away and normally live where I work, therefore Ethel is kept 2 mins down the road from there. This means that Ethel is 30 mins from my proper home and so no one has been able to take me to see her. Well, yesterday I persuaded my mum to take me to see her (after lots of nagging/begging/bribing with petrol money)
When I got there I was greeted by a whinney and a happy looking Ethel, which made me happy as I knew then that my friend had been looking after her really well (didn't really have any doubts tbh, she's great with Eth but it was nice to be sure!) I took off her rugs and gave her a groom and she stood very still the whole time and only moved around if I moved away from her, as if she knew she had to be careful around me. I then stood next to her and scratched her neck on the opposite side of which I was standing and she stretched her head round and started nuzzling all over my back
She was really cuddly and sweet and kept a close eye on my mum and me when we were walking around the yard. Then my friend turned up and we turned the horses out, she took Bob and I took Ethel. Bob stormed off to his field and normally Ethel would try to keep up, but she walked slowly and stopped everytime I stumbled, leant into me instead of moving away if I lost my balance a bit and had to lean on her (I know it sounds a bit pathetic, more like I've broken my leg than just had stitches in my knee, but I haven't walked around much and my knee is swollen and stiff and I have a limp, and often stumble on flat surfaces, let alone walking through a slippy muddy field whilst leading a horse
) When we got the field I let her off and she waited until I was out of the field and happily trotted off
She's not normally a cuddly horse, so yesterday was really nice being able to have hugs and cuddles with her.
Bit of a pointless, self indulgent post really, but thought I'd share
