I am lucky enough to hunt with the Tanatside hunt, a small grass roots hunt on the Welsh/Shrops borders.
I wasn't going to hunt today as the ground was a soggy, icy mush, but as we have missed the last few weeks due to the frost decided at the last minute to go, so grabbed neddy in, scraped off the mud and off we trundled.

problem 1: encountered a nasty collision on the way so had to wait for the police to re-open the road - phoned our senior master to say I was running late and to start without me, and she said not to worry and they would wait for me before they set off.

problem 2: 1 mile from the meet had a tyre blow out! Fortunatley one of the car followers passed me, and drove off to the meet to get help, and 3 terrier men came to the rescue. Was told to hack to the meet and they would sort it whilst I enjoyed my day.

Thats why I love my hunt!

I am relatively new to hunting, this only being my 3rd season, but am totally addicted and cannot get over the sense of community and feeling part of something so special. Our hunt country is glorious and as the fields tend to be small (only me and one other subscriber out today plus 2 masters and kennel huntsman!) we get so involved with the action and watching the hounds work.
Am now off down to the off licence to buy the terrier men some whiskey to say thanks!

That is what it is all about!

I am sure the TM will enjoy their bottle even though they will not expecting it!

I remeber a couple of seasons ago first fence was a 5' stone wall with ditch on landing. Field started to dash off in other direction to go round. I had to go though.
My horse just clipped the top with his hooves & the top qurter came down. Que field doing an about turn & calvary charg towards the wall.
At the end of the day as we hacked passed the wagons everyone rolled down their window to say thank to me for knocking the wall down!! Whoops!

Last October,we were hunting in the next county and I got double barrelled hard in the leg by a horse, who had shot backwards out of the field,as i was about to jump a rail :-( Never been "t-boned" before :-( I was in agony as the kicks hit me in the calf and ankle, thankfully missing my cob.
Some foot followers helped me off, took me back to their house which was just up the road to clean up and assess. The terrier mans daughter hopped onto my cob and rode him back to the boxes so my OH could get him home, terrierman's wife collected me from the house and ran me to the hospital, stayed with me and dropped me back at my mums (who was a lot closer than home) so she could run me back to the yard. I was very lucky to get away with severe soft tissue and nerve damage but no break, i still have a "dead" part on my leg which is hard, lumpy and has no feeling.

The real WTF moment was the teenage girl whose horse kicked never apologised and her mum shouted abuse at me for crying due to the shock and pain!!!

By the end of the day i had had phone calls from Masters and secretaries to check i was ok.

Huge thanks to all the people who helped and i did write thankyou letters and sent chocolate :-)

ouch! On my old horse we were galloping along a strip of field and a random horse kicked out at me! luckily he missed my leg by inches. but he kicked my horse in the side (on the numnah), but he was fine. :)

I did get an apology though.. :)
