We had the OHs kids this weekend. We havn't had them for 2 weeks so I was deturmind his daughter was going to do lots of riding.
She's been having confidance issues especialy on Merryn who is a little big for her. She gets scared getting on and when I do the girth up on both the boys especialy if they move. It's bad enough when she only rides once a foughtnight but this time it's been three weeks since her last ride.
I had to work sat morning and in the afternoon we had stuff to do but seeing as it stays light till 6.30 I was still deturmined she was going to ride both ponies
.
We got back at 5 and we rushed upstairs to get changed, then we threw tack on Herbs and I got her on. She got a little scared getting on and when I did the girth up as he kept trying to bite me. Herbs was quite cross at having to go out when he thought it was dinner time
. I did the girth and off we set. E soon settled down and was enjoying riding up the track and even started to laugh when Herbs tryed to bite me. We where nearly at the cattle grid when a deer jumped out the hedge. All Herbs did was jump a little and I told E thats all he ever does. So then she relaxed a little more. We had a lovely ride in the forest for about 10 mins then we went home. By this time the OH had returned from the shop so as I sorted Herbs out he went out to get Merryn in. I tacked him up and the OH helped E get on then he stood at Merryns head while I did the girth up and he stood still. E didn't get to nervous that time
We then rode in the school for 20 mins practcing going, stopping and stearing on the leadrein. We even went over some walking poles.
On Sun OH takes his son to rugby and E and I do the horses. We rode Herbs out on the forest again. E was confident getting on and didn't worry about the girth being done up at all
Then we had a lovely long walk in the forest E was chatting away the whole time and only got alittle nervous when we went down some steep hills and herbs walked a little faster.
Next we did Merryn in the school. E said would it help Meryn stand still if she asked him to and held onto the reins while I did the girth up. I said she could give it a try. She got on him from the block realy confidantly then I walked him over to the gate and stood him facing the gate
Then I did the girth. E took hold of the reins and told him to stand still and he did
Although I think that had more to do with the gate stopping him from moving I didn't tell E that as she was feeling very pleased with herself
.
We rode round the school on the leadrein practicing all the stuff we had done yesterday. Merryn was being a little star so I asked E if she wanted me to unattach the leadrein. She said " you will still walk next to me won't you" and I said ofcourse I will
. She was happily riding him on her own and consentraiting on getting him to do what she said she didn't notice me creaping further and further away
.
She was stopping him, getting him to walk on, Stearing, walking over the poles and even riding small circles all on her own.
I was so proud. Then I said " E have you nticed how far away I am now?" She said "Oh yea" then she had a huge grin on her face
.
She was so proud of herself she couldn't wait to tell everyone she met for the rest of the day that she had ridden off the leadrein.
I'm so proud of E and both my boys they did so well this weekend. Roll on two weeks time when we can do it all again and hopefuly her confidance will grow alittle more
