ok now i`m going to make myself sound stupid

i`ve always been taught to sit quite quietly when jumping "let the jump come to you" and all that but i`ve noticed at shows that the people that really "go for it" (kind of like pony club style) while jumping always seem to win etc

so my rather stupid question is is it best to really "go for it" or just sit quiet?

Depends on what type of horse you have I suppose - I jumped a keen chestnut mare (need I say more!) and she went better if you just sat quietly whereas others may require a bit more ooommmph!

What level are they winning at?
You can get it wrong up to about 3'3 and good horses will forgive you.

Agree with this - if you rode like this round a 1.30m course you would be in trouble

Hi I am only just a beginner myself but I would think the idea is to "hold the pace" This you set up before you get to the jump as soon as you leave the previous jump and then with the legs pressure or rein pressure or leaning forward or sitting still you "hold the pace " to what you set.

really depends on the horse. Some horses really need pushing on to stop them refusing whilst others need a quieter rider
