I made a very difficult decision today

And on Friday morning my beloved pony will be put to sleep.

I wasn't going to put her through another winter and so September seemed to be looming, but this morning when I went to put sun cream on her my decision was made.

Everyone always says you just 'know' when the time is right and I never understood how, but I do now. It wasn't something I thought about or decided, it was a feeling that come from deep inside that told me her time had come.

She is the most beautiful pony and in the 22 years (of her 26) that I have owned her she has never shown a nasty side. Truely one in a million and I don't know how I'm going to get on without her to be honest.

These next few days will be special.

That is a very difficult position and one I hope I can easily make again with my other horses. It's the last caring thing you can do for your faithful friends and a decision that none of us who care so much for our horses would ever take lightly. Had to make the same decision for my boy 2 weeks ago - for him it was sudden and very unexpected. as someone said to me, one of the worst things about being a human is that you have the power to make that decision and it hurts like no other hurt when you have to make it. make the most of the time you have left, know that you are doing the best for your pony and cherish all the times you have had together.

Enfys, I know exactly what you mean. I've never experienced this before and in between being tearful I do have this huge sense of peace.

This morning it was very real what with making arrangements, but now I'm feeling quite numb. I'm going to go and ride my horse around the farm shortly, where I'm sure I'll pour my heart out. He is going to have to take over from her as chief listener.
