I had this sudden urge to have some XC fences to play with. Rustled these two up single handedly (Duncan was busy) in four and a half hours.

I stole the tyres from the silage clamp....baaaad Patches!

Digging a big hole to sink the cut down sleepers in.

When I took the tools back, I spotted some willow screening and had this madcap idea to make a brush type fence. Chopped a rail up, used some old laths and stole a length of Yorkshire boarding!

Voila! (picture blurred as it was going dark)

I have put the two fences 12 strides apart and the docks just happened to fall on that striding. I'll chop them down and will probably spray them in the next week or so too.

The angle is intentional. I'm going to put some upright struts at the edges of the fence, behind it, to support the angle should a horse clout it. It's solid enough, I can't move it now it's 18 inches into the ground....but I thought it'd make it a bit more secure.

Can't wait to try them out tomorrow!

Duncan started me off though....bouyed by the post on here a few days ago, he made me two little SJ fillers this morning

I have eyed up a half length of a telegraph pole too. I tried to move it, but it just wasn't happening. I need bigger muscles.......or the hubby with his JCB!

And seriously jealous! 1 of where you live, 2 that you are so clever and 3 that you dare jump!

There is absolutely no need to be jealous of where we live. I wish we didn't live here....by the blooming M6! It's not an idyllic spot post 1967. Damn traffic noise.

The tyre fence is just over 2ft, the brush 2ft 3. They're not huge but even I may have a wobble when I jump them the first time. Solid fences tend to do that to me....make me "think" too much. Infact, they give me brain ache!

Wow - those are excellent. Well done. Its one of those things that my partner and I have always said we will do and never have. Now we are on a livery yard that does have its own.

Very impressive,

I'm not allowed permanent things, I share my land with cattle and sheep and there has to be access for tractors and combines.

I don't share my summer paddocks with the cows, but where I propose to put some better fences is in a field the cows graze. I'll put more solid options in there.....logs, telegraph poles, tyres etc. Wouldn't put a brush fence up against a herd of cows!

Wowsers!

She refused them at first as they're quite narrow, but we soon got her popping over them. Jumped the tyres both ways.....a test for me as I don't like to go downhill.

They jumped really, really nicely. I am so pleased!

My instructor joined me for a bit of fun and we cantered down one of our bank fields (to get me out of the "I don't canter downhill phobia"), through a gate and across another field with a big water filled ditch running through it. Jumped the ditch, circled and came back to jump it again before going back through the gateway and blasting up the field again!

Woooooo hoooooo!!!

What fun! Tired Patches and tired human Patches!
