How do I know how long everything has to be??? I suppose the only way to know is to ride it, so that means hiring a 60x20 arena???

yes you need to hire a 60 x 20 and ideally video it so you can time the different sections ie walk, trot, canter so you can then fit the music to the test if that makes sense

hasn't test got to be a certain amount of time ie 4mins???

nicked ideas for BD test you like and ride well as they have timings, then add in fancy bits eg give and retake, rien back, 15m loops or circles etc...

We have Swallowfield hired on Tuesday to practice our test before regionals ...but that is miles from you.

We have hired Croft Top before the day after a dressage and asked themm to leave the boards out - they were fine about it

Yep... have a give and retake, possible rein back, 10m circles in trot and a serpentine as well as required bits.

Just one question... the FWLR has to me at least 20m, would the long diagonal do???

Long diagonal is more than enough. Remember the medium walk also has to be 20m as well. You often see people do the diagonal FWLR then pick up medium at the corner and then trot or canter at A or C. That's not enough medium walk.
