I mean I really don't need another horse but as some of you know I'm at home recovering from major surgery for cancer and hoping this gives me the all clear in the coming weeks.
I love a project, something that challenges me, I have 3 previous projects out on perm loan so I can surcure their lives until the end and love visiting them and watching them progress when all 3 were booked into slaughter.
1, lovely grey mare who was stunning but chucked her owner off time after time and would only let me have her if I signed she wasn't to be riden to cover her back even though she knew I was going to. Spoke to pervious owners and horse was a jumping machine, I soon learn if u hacked her out she would mess around but put her in a field of jumps she cleared anything and I mean any size she had pure telent ( she's in a competition home winning a lot and they want to buy her but I won't sell)
2, navicular horse lame as lame, owner was going to pts but I asked to try barefoot rehab, horse is now in a happy hacking home and hunting most weekends. Hasnt had soundness issues for a few years now and I'm perfectly happy when I visit and see her move etc but shoes will never be used again on this horse.
3, little welsh cob with attitude, this pony did baffle me, he soon settled and showed me he was a loving pony really just with some issues to work with, serious broncing each time I got on, when u sat the broncs you can hack out lovely after, so each day I started in a round pen with rubber surface to break my fall if needed but luckily I only fell off once in the 2 years I worked with him ( he reared right up and jumped off with his hind legs then on landing when I was on his neck he set off broncing) this one is the one who I will always remember as I couldn't work him out, every check was coming up clear and vets couldn't figure anything out and I finally thought I might have to have this lad pts or keep as a pet, I had done every check and some checks more than once, I decided one day to try with no saddle which made no difference, next day no bridle just headcollar and lead ropes and he never bronced! Next day I tried that again, and again he set off with no naughtiness, thinking I was finally on to something I had a dentist out for the 3rd time ( as soon as I get a new project the basic checks are all done) he said nothing really wrong in his mouth and could see they had just been done. Next day I bridled him up and off we went broncing at speed until he decided it was time to stop and start work. At this point I called upon thermal imaging ( really rate this and would use this now quite early on with any new project) and funny enough the only which showed up was his mouth! Finally getting somewhere after nearly 2 years but boy he taught me to sit. The vet doing the thermal imaging slated all the dentist work which had been carried out and re done it within the imaging cost after hearing the horses past, so so nice of him. And bingo long story short I had no issues after that at all. He's currently a kids 2nd pony and excels in jumping. Tbh I was sad to part with him after all I put into him and my boyfriend at the time got fed up with me sitting in the evenings saying " I'm missing something what am I not seeing"
Anyway sorry to gabble on Im sat here recovering and thinking off what I enjoy doing. I have my permanent horses but tonight has got me thinking I would like to look for another to work on when I'm better, give myself something to look forward to so to speak. I don't really pay for them they just seem to find their way to me up until now ( meat money at best) so not sure where to look? A tb has just been offered to me but obviously I'm in no position to take one on and need to say a big thanks to everybody looking after mine at the moment but I did do a bit of work reguarding the tb and found her a home where I work so I will get to see her and ride her when I'm better. She was going to meat as her racing days were over but she won a lot so was put to a local stud but wouldn't take to going in foal. The stud rung me to see if I could take her but my boss paid £200 and brought her back, she has a home for life now, no horse has ever been sold.
( I have nothing against putting horses to sleep before that is suggested but do have a little passion for working with a horse where issues seem to be unknown,
just hope the loan horses never get returned all at once Lol )
Any places which would be worth keeping an eye on? Or maybe just wait for the next one to come my way
