I took my horse for a hack early this morning and on our way home we were walking along a road (quite a main road but it was ver early so hardly anyone out). I was wearing my flourescent tabard and he is covered in white patches so we are quite easy to spot! Anyway we were going along a bendy bit of the road when I heard a car coming whizzing up behind us. They then must have spotted us and screeched to a stop, however as it had been raining last night the road was quite slippery and their car spun round and went straight into the curb as they stopped. Fortunately it did not hit it very hard and no one else was coming so it didn't cause a collision. Driver got out and was ok, (thankgod) and went to check car that seemed ok. My horse was very good thoroughout is but it was a bit worrying. The person obviously knew they were meant to slow for horses but had just used the brakes a bit too enthusiatically! Hopefully they will drive a bit slower round that bend from now on. Anyway thankfully no one was hurt.

strange title for your post??it doesn`t sound as if you done any thing wrong

Well wasn't my fault no, maybe I should change title to 'was nearly in an accident' ? Just glad nothing bad happened, was a bit shaken up afterwards.

Poor you! I hate that dreaded feeling of hearing someone flying up behind you when there is nowhere to escape

Last year i had a similar experience and had to trot my pony up the road (when she was supposed to be on walk exercise only) to get out the way of a speeding car. I only just made it into some ones driveway when he whizzed past. There is no doubt in my mind he would have hit us if i hadn't got out of the way.

I hate it when cars are going fast, spot me at last minute, despite hi viz, hit the brakes, usually veer to side and hit gravel. My boy is very good in traffic, for how long with idiots on the road, I don't know!!

People seem to drive too fast for visibility and narrowness of roads/lanes.

Look at it this way. You prvented an accident. Imagine if you had not been wearing hi-viz

You def didnt nearly cause an accident!

We have a bend on the way to the yard at the Worth end of Turners Hill Road and the amount of times I drive past and someone is being fished out of the bushes.

Today I went past and there was a car up on a recovery truck, the driver and the recovery guy were walking back to where it happened, I knew exactly where it was, he wasnt the first one to take that bend too quick and end up on the otherside of the road in the bushes.

He was VERY lucky though, he had hit the tree and his car had a lovely "V" deep dent at the front of the car, he must have hit that at some speed

I havent heard (or thankfully seen) a fatality yet, but one day it will happen and the scary thing is, they take that corner too fast and end up on the other side of the road so someone coming the other way completely innocent could end up hurt or killed

So glad you both ok, well done for wearing some Hi Viz, it is the car drivers fault though, it's called "driving with due care and attention" there could be ANYTHING around a bend, horse cyclist broken down car/lorry tractor pile of bricks off a lorry, the list is endless, doesnt sound like a modern car as or the ABS aint working :-(

I agree, its not your fault, it could have been a mother pushing a pram or a hedge cutter or anything around that bend, people just need to take more care on bends, its good that no one was hurt
