Im looking for a bigger trailer and dont know wheather to go for the Ifor 510 (Ive currently got the 505) or a Bateson.

I really like the Batesons, but they are not as easy to get hold of at the 510's, BUT on the other hand they are lighter!

Also, the 510's are abit cheaper. Help!

Not a fan of ifor trailers, used to own a 505 and skye really wasnt happy travelling in it now have a cheval liberte 2003xl and she travels great. I personally would hold out for a bateson over on ifor although i love my Cheval liberte, think it is all personal taste.

I love my 510 and my 16.3 travles really well in it - my Mum sayd you don't even know he is on there half the time!

I had a bateson and if i wanted to buy a trailer again i would buy another bateson over the Ifor Willams any day. The bateson also has built in saddle racks which i like, IMO i think the bateson is a nicer trailer, i know some will prefer the Ifor but each to their own. If you do prefer the Bateson i would wait for a bateson trailer to come along rather than just buy the 510 just because its easy to get hold of. The Batesons do hold their value very well and i think it speaks for its self that there are not many of them for sale, i find if you have one you tend to hold onto them.

Have you looked at the Richardsons? Have a look on their website - has all the spec on each trailer & prices.

I have a Richardson Supreme Ultra - it is huge. Heaps of headroom & my mare is 16.3.

I've always bought Richardson - had a Supreme Advance before, much prefer the Richardson to the Ifor.

Have no idea about batesons.

Max Gross Weight - Richardson = 2700kg
Max Gross Weight - Ifor 510 = 2584kg

Unladen Weight - R = 1100kg
Unladen Weight - I = 1000kg

Hope that's helpful.

Ive had both Ifor and Richardson and for me the Richardson towed so much better, didnt have a problem with the Ifor towing wise but what a difference, the Richardson was so much smoother. Build quality I'd have an Ifor apart from the decrepid spring suspension. The Richardson was very light and airy with much more room at the front for unloading, no tight turns in this one. The top door was great as so big and even got to take my trailer phobic horse for a drive, wouldnt stay in an Ifor??? Saying that he wouldnt stay in it afterwards (We drive well I promise

My only gripe with the Richardson and its a big one is it is definately not as solid as the Ifor, my horse slightly warped the back ramp clattering up and down it. Ok most horses are fine so you wouldnt have this problem but my boy did this running out backwards a few times so it wasnt walloped or anything.
We had the Supreme Grande.

another plus for the bateson is that the front ramp opens on the left hand side. this is really useful if you have to park at the side of the road (out hunting etc) because the ramp opens onto the verge rather than onto the road. Some other makes - not sure which, but my old one was one of them - open on the road side. It is worth taking into consideration...

Another vote for Batesons, the unladen weight of the Deauville is 840kg so significantly less than an Ifor 510.
I don't know why Ifor still make their trailers with leaf spring suspensions (like old Land Rovers) but it makes them quite bouncy. Batesons & Cheval Liberte have independant suspensions more like a car (a coil on each wheel) so they are a much smoother ride and the horse is fine whichever side of the trailer he's on. I looked at all 3 and preferred the Bateson as it was light and airy inside, well made, had the ramp on the verge side and had an independant suspension, and size wise I felt the Ifor 505 was a bit on the tight size for my 16hh boy (who doesn't load/ travel well) but the 510 seemed b***y mahoosive for towing & manoevering around on my own!!

We have a pegusus equestrian, made by Wessex - its just fantastic. Holds my 18hh and 17.2 very comfortably its light and airy. I think we paid about £4000 but i saw a second hand one advertised for £2500 the other day. We had the 510 before but the pegusus is just way better in finish and comfort.
