I need a BITT of help!

hiii, i've just been given a '3 ring gag bit' (not used) because my pony is strong when doing Xcountry. Now i've never really had one before, so i know it sounds silly but like what 'ring' do the reins attach too, and how tight should i put it??
 
They should be used with two sets of reins. One on the 'snaffle' ring and the other on the second or third ring, depending on how strong the horse is. Fit it with a wrinkle in the corner of the mouth as normal.

It's not a bit that I personally like, but some horses do get on with them.

Try it in a safe place (the arena or field you normally school in) before you go XC in it.
