This is unbelievable...i am sitting at work trying not to cry.

Horse was off with infection for nearly 2 months
then
Horse was off with abcess for nearly 3 months
now horse is actually fit and ready to go showjumping this weekend - somehow he has managed to f@ck himself in the school and is covered in cuts and cant go this weekend!

Why do we do it, i really need a break

Need 2nd horse.

Or indestructible cob. (was going to follow that up with like mine but don't dare incase I get home to find her crippled as a result of me tempting fate) Don't know how you feel as have mentioned the toughness of afore mentioned cob but feel for you anyway,
Hugs

Don't know YO phoned me and has called the vet - can't get out of work until 630!

I told her to put him in the field as he was meant to be staying over night on saturday and wanted him out until then - but she put him in the school..i know its not her fault but i cannot help but me annoyed about it you know?

bugger!!!!!!!!

wait until you have seen him and spoken to the vet before you abandon all hope though. Stupid question but have you already paid your entries fees/stabling etc because you may be able to get it back with a vets certificate.

Wait and see what the damage is - if it's all cosmetic you can still go! My coloured horse freaked in the box on the way to a three day show - got there bleeding from about 10 different places, lacking lots of hair and missing a back shoe. I got there in a panic but my trainer had a look at him and said sod it just jump him it's all superficial. I seem to recall he got placed in several classes that weekend, and didn't get the shoe put back on until the Sunday am (gotta love those cobby horse feet!). Deep breaths, and make your decision when you get down the yard xx

Wont be going - just spoke to andy matthews, said he was really lucky it wasnt worse - but he wont be going this weekend

Jen i am so update

Don't get a second one. I have three and in the last 18 months I've had an emergency call-out to all three of them. In fact, three to the youngster, two to the 11yo and one to the oldie. And my 11yo, main riding horse, as been in work for about four months in the last two years due to one bone spavin, one getting completely wrapped up in electric fencing, one abscess bursting through coronet band, one banged fetlock and two horrendous kick injuries in field - one last summer and one last month.

I don't even have to give my name to my vet anymore - he has my number in his phone!!!

Definitely do not get a second one, unless you want to have two broken horses. In which case, I have two available for you ...

In the past 6 months I have managed to canter 1 twice in a 20m circles and the other one accidentally cantered on a hack when he spooked (not a spooky sort until he was out of work). Have had no riding for 4 months when they were both broken, now riding one in walk for 40 mins every other day to make him lame.

I am definitely taking a break if they neither is sound by the summer - will just turn them away and just not slog through another year of re-hab (already did that last year).

Hopefully the cuts heal quickly and you can get back on and forget about the last 6 months!

Aw hun you must be so disappointed, know how much you were looking forward to going. Bloody horses eh! How long is he going to be off for, will you be cool for Ayr? Come up on Sunday for a bit if you can stomach it, you can have a laugh at me getting exterminated xx
