To Shavings, (he has COPD so cant go back on straw) that is reasonably easy to get hold of, so what would you suggest?? also with wood pellets do you make a deep bed with banks etc?? i am hopefully putting rubber matts down in Buzz's stable before winter sets in too,

Cardboard - ecobed is cheaper. Or what about treated straw like Nedzbedz?

I use rubber matting and pellets, cheap and super absorbant. I just have a layer across the back 1/4 of the stable, I'm not a fan of big deep beds but you can make a normal bed with banks if you want to.

Smelly yes, but cheep, sorry cant remeber how much a bale the local farm sells for

I use Excell Bed-Down - mixture of straw and shavings, smells lovely too (eucalyptus?) and dust extracted, absorbs really well and makes a really nice bed.

Can't you turn him out 24/7 - at least until winter time?

All sound like good ideas but being in middlesex/hertfordshire always courses a problem, however he is technicly in essex now so that may help.

Puppy - no i cant put him out 24/7 as he stresses nd jumps in, silly old sod
