I need a hug :'-(

Shadeyoak he went onto that on Saturday!! Fingers crossed! Thanks for the advice re not riding in the school, will stick to roads + tracks for the time being!

Trying not to get disheartened, just want my Bailster back :(

Just make sure you get the right dose, my lad is on a level scoop as a maintenance dose once a day :) Give it at the very least 10 days to start kicking in, it's really worth the wait though, my lad had mild stiffness issues in his hind fetlock, that has gone over time :)
Shop around as well, you can pick it up for as little as £20 on some sites ;)
Oh and it's worth putting him on cider vinegar too :)

I'm going to go against the grain here and say schooling really helps my arthritic. I have a classical instructor and she has shown my how to work her in hand before getting on. She needs a long warm up and we do lots of lateral work which really helps her - if she doesn't get it, we notice a big difference, more than the bute or the joint supplement. We do hack out as well and I try to avoid more than one day off a week.
She has also had her shoes off which has helped. She has massage boots (they are called ice-vibe) and magnet boots as well as a massage pad as arthritics often get compensation pain in their lumbar back. Feeding copper is good for joints but you should get your forage analysed first so you know what to feed.
Mine has been brilliant this winter living out has really agreed with her, but sadly this week she has been crippled with a possibly abscess which is not responding to polticing or hoof testers so we have the vet for x-rays tomorrow to check that's what it actually is. More box rest is the last thing she needs and I'm going mad at the moment imagining broken pedal bones and all manner of horrible things :(

Thank you will look for that! And it was the vets advice to keep him in gentle exercise, as if he's retired he could go downhill rapidly. I'm going to call the vet this week and discuss my concerns though, ask her advice

Oh no unbalanced I'm sorry to hear that :( although bailey is a cob, he can't go unshod on the front as he's too footy and we have to do a lot of walking on gravel tracks. He's barefoot behind though.

Do you have the equilibrium massage pad?

I too would have thought that light exercise is good to keep stiff joints mobile, just avoid circles as the put more strain on the joints. Pretty sure that some horses just can't cope or do well retired after issues with arthritis :(

Yes, equilibrium. I would obviously love an equissage but my budget wouldn't, sadly. And I have to pay for all the vets to get new cars or something.
I think even not having shoes behind will help with spavins because you are reducing the shock that is transmitted up to the hock every time he puts his foot down. I had a similar problem to you though as mine is cushings and laminitic so she has been challenging to transition and it took about 9 months but we got there in the end.
I just have to cross my fingers for pus by the morning - that would definitely be the best outcome!

video of the Mr B in the school yesterday. Please ignore my non horsey auntie in the background, she knew I was pinning my hopes on him looking ok and kept telling me he looked fine despite knowing nothing about horses, bless her heart!!

If you watch towards the end when we slow back into walk, you can see where I think the problem is with his right hind. Poor Mr B :(

Sorry for my awful riding, his trot was very rushed and I was trying to fiddle with my hands to see if I could encourage him to slow down by offering him a longer rein but I think the rushing was a pain response and not just him being a little tank as usual :(

ETA: if you look at my other videos on youtube, you can see some of us doing dressage in March time to compare how his movement has changed

I have a BrodPod bracelet myself and it works! So I bought the pony their wraps, they can stay on overnight. I also like Back on Track stuff, Bids has a rug and their wraps and again they can stay on all the time xx
