After being scammed out of £1000, with pending investigation from trading standards etc. I am left without a horse and with little money.

People always talk about finding cheap unbroken horses, but WHERE i cant find any D: ... i dont mind unbacked or backed, as im experienced and get more enjoyment from unbacked, every horse ive had has been unbroken. I need something 16 hh +

I am looking for something to event, so i thought i would contemplate getting a horse straight from racing. I cant find any anywhere either. Am i just looking in the wrong places or not. Ideally i want one straight from racing without the middle man but how do i go about this ?

Any info would be greatly appreciated :D
 
I've had cheap horses from sales. It's not always ponies or cobs, had a couple of nice horses from them too. That's the first place I look for a cheap project. If you aren't used to sales though not a good idea.
Project horses? Usually have cheap ones that need some work.
Or save up 6months or more upkeep so you have a bigger budget for when prices drop in Dec.
 
the problem waiting till december is if i end up getting a youngster i dont really want to keep them in all winter, as i only have summer turnout and only winter hacking at home :(
 
Well there is the heros charity and other racehorse rehoming charities, I'm sure they would love to hear from you and put you in touch with someone :-) or horsequest has an under 1000 section that has racehorses in quite often. Good luck, I have one on loan that came from Newmarket and was about 750 :-)
 
Use the racing trainers directory and email all the trainers in your local area saying what you're after, ie heights age. I did this recently and had quite a few replies offering all sorts of horses, went and saw a few and eventually got a very sweet 4 yr old mare that I plan to event next year for under £1000
