as above really, to begin with she isnt lame and shes not in pain with it but I notice her hock was swollen anout 3 weeks ag, YO head yard person said it was just fluid and that beacuse she wasnt lame she'd work the fluid and unless the fluid moved to the front of her leg shell be ok,

Any how we've being working, hacking, jumping, she's turned out everyday and its still swollen, tonight it felt lumpy but shes still not lame and its still not causing her any pain.

Ideas anyone please? Maybe I could put her on a week of anti inflamatries?

Could be onset of spavins? Might be worth just walking her out for a few weeks and see if it goes down. She's not stiff at all on it?

or is it actually on the point of hock like this (arrow 2):

No shes fine on it, shes jumping great with no hesitation at fences, hacking out fine thats why its so bizzare.

Whats onset spavins/ Am not familular with it

TGM, are you googling? That's cheating! haha

I meant the onset of hock spavin.....they don't always display pain with spavin but it can cause swelling. Ty was swollen and then a few weeks later the swelling went down and he was mildly lame on the back while it was healing.

I just wouldn't be jumping her or fast hacking when you don't know what it is!

My YO's head person has been with her for over a decade and YO has top level Show jumpers so I trusted what she said and as she wasnt lame I carried riding as normal and she dosent shoe destress or pain or unwillingness to move forwards. Just as its been there a while now am a little concerned

Sounds like a curb to me - personally I would have the vet to have a look, even if horse isn't lame.

PR - it sounded like a curb from the initial description (although possibly a capped hock) so I googled both of those using the image function because it was much quicker and easier than trying to type a description of what both ailments look like!

If it is a capped hock it will be just on the point of hock itself - this is often caused by lack of bedding and horse scraping its hocks when it lies down.

But you said it was halfway down the hock and stopped just above the tendon, which doesn't sound like a capped hock to me?

Curb is more worrying than capped hock as a curb can indicate strain of one of the ligaments in the hock area. (Curb is a term that refers to a swelling in that particular location but experts think there can be more than one cause: http://www.equinescienceupdate.co.uk/curb.htm )

However, if in doubt, call the vet out! (Or at least talk to them over the phone and email them a pic of the affected area.)

Sounds like curb ligament .Stop jumping and rest then call vet.My horse did his 6 weeks rest and it returned to normal but he was lame. With the right care it will return to normal .

Thanks guys, sorry had to shoot off last night. Well she always has a deep bed so no chance of banging it when lying down unless shes doing it in the field. Ill speak to my evt today.

Thank you
