I really want to do the Novice hunter trial at the Belvoir Team Chase in September, but my nerves will only allow me to jump up to and around 85 (ISH) cm - have jumped a little higher but had an accident and haven't since.

I have got a real thirst for XC and would love to do a Hunter trial - my worry is the novice class is up to 92cm which I could just about cope with (shut eyes and kick on of course!!) but then it says the hedges will be bigger

I'm going to do some working hunter classes and they go up to 85cm (Novice) but I just can't seem to break my curse.......

Any suggestions? Thanks

it may be a good idea to get some lessons to help your confidence over bigger jumps. If you are a member of a riding club then most of them offer cross country schooling clinics and these would be a good place to go if you want to progress to jumping bigger courses.Alternatively do they do open days at the place where they are going to hold the team chase as that would be a good place to go and try out the fences, especially if you could take an instructor with you or if they hire out instructors.

The team chase is at Garthorpe, I'm not sure if it's open before. I was thinking about having some lessons - I may ask to get an instructor round Newton XC course, I did this before with the South Notts and that's what started me off loving XC!!

Have your mum enter you in the next HT becasue you are on a Uni field trip to back of the beyond. They accidentaly enter you in the class above what you were planning on doing (ie 95 - 105 cm not 80 -90cm). Arrive late on the day walk the course in a hurry thinking: Gosh these look big! and put it down to stress.

Found out after you have gone clear (that you have just gone round the 95 -105 class and almost fall off in shock. Followed by a sack of carrots for horse and a stiff drink for your post-traumatic shock.

=)

Erm, yes it was fun!!! Because it was actually a really good round!
I was just terrified AFTER I had done it (which just doesn't make sense - fear of doing what you have just done??? )
But at least it proved to me that we really could go higher, easily.
=)

what is your horse like XC- is he a brave take you forward kind of horse or one that relies on rider for bravery?

right then i think you need to enter then. get yourself XC schooling and get some rescue remedy and you will be fine! just kick on positively to the bigger hedges and sure your horse will look after you!
