I am currently still in school, at my yard i get no data connection at all! And im working sat and sun, im tryimg to fit in time to spend with my friends outside of school but im struggling to find time around horses and school work, especially as we are getting nearer the eventing and showjumping seasons.
 
Well... I work full time and my horse is my social time. I don't have many close friends, but I do make time to go for dinner/ cinema with my OH at least once a week... does that count?!

I don't socialise - I've realised (yet again) I don't like people!

Have you no friends at the yard or that compete at the same events as you? as a kid I had friends all over the country, but we only really socialised/spoke/played together at shows (sounding very old now) we didn't have mobiles or internet/social media at the time.

Could you organise a study group type thing where you and your friends go round to each others houses to do homework/study in the evenings?

Without knowing what other hobbies/things you like to do its hard to recommend anything. Remember though you are incredibly lucky to have your horse, most kids can only dream of owning a pony.
 
My daughter worked out by year 9 if she went to school half an hour early she could go in library and do her homework and again on her dinner so her home time was for her socialising and whatever else and could keep home and school separate. Yes I had a hissy fit at first as I thought she was fobbing me off but she wasn't and it worked really well for her and her friends understood when she went off the radar at dinner. She did this through college and now at uni too. Could an option like this work?
 
I'm in college so I know how you feel! I'm lucky as most of my friends are horsey/farming and the ones who aren't are used to it! I see most of my friends at shows and I still go out and see my friends and go for nights out, I just have to function on 2 hours sleep the next day. I also work sat/sun to pay for everything. It can be hard but I do as much work as I can in college. We have 4 'lessons' a day but some of them are study periods/frees so I do as much work as I can in those so I only tend to do college work at home leading up to exams. It's not easy but if you want to make it work you can!!
 
Time management! It's a really useful skill to learn and the earlier you learn it the better. It's so easy to waste time but if you are organised and prioritise, it's amazing just how much you can achieve if you really want to.
 
I don't have a social life. The horse and my husband are my first and only loves and I'm at my happiest with them. When I was younger, I managed to fit in a full time job, a horse and a bit of a social life. Just meant some evenings I was super quick doing the horse. There was a point where I did burn out as I needed extra pennies to pay for the horse as my full time job wasn't quite enough, so I took on a part time job doing an additional 15 hrs a week. I was working 7 days a week, rarely rode, and was exhausted, but it served a purpose and got me through a financial sticky patch. Where there's a will theres a way.....
 
Well, another one still at school here. I got my horse in my gcse year, that was tough but so worth it. During the actual GCSEs it was fine as you get so much time off, it was more the months leading up to it as the revision got more intense. I went to the yard after school every day, got home around 8 most days, did revision on the bus home a lot. I was never the best at handing in homework so that slipped a bit. I didn’t mind as I was doing the work I needed to do, came out with mostly A stars (or 8s and 9s as they are now). I liked my friends at school but they weren’t super special to me, I prefer my horsey friends from the various yards I go to! It is much easier to have a social life if your friends are horsey, you can go on hacks together, go to arena hire or clinics together, go on camps in the summer, ride your friends horses etc. Whereas if your friends aren’t horsey you don’t have as much time to spend with them as the horse has to be seen every day.
It’s tricky, one of the reasons I moved yards was because at the new yard there were a lot more people my age, some of whom I knew already, who also compete. Old yard had a couple people my age but they weren’t all that interested in riding.
