I'm going to join BSJA with my gelding soon, I'm just wondering how the heck you qualify for any classes at shows such as Royal International Horse Show (Hickstead), Royal Windsor, Scope etc.
I'd like to hear your stories and how you went about qualifying, and how the actual show went!
There is qualifiers for Blue Chips at my local BSJA, so I may go for that.
Replies would be much appreciated :D

Hickstead - you don't need to qualify for most classes just look on the website and enter.
Royal Windsor - again you don't need to qualify but the smallest class is 1.20 Foxhunter, schedules come out March time.
Scope - You do have to qualify for the smallest height is 1m not to have won more than £175 and the heights/winnings go up from there. You need to come in the top 6 in a qualifying class you can find a list of where these are held on the BS website.

Good Luck :)

Amateurs- there are loads of first rounds, at 90cm, 1m, 1.10m and 1.15m. 1-6th qualifies you for second rounds, held in September/October- go to as many as you like, you need to place 1-8 (10th??) and tht qualifies you for the Finals at Aintree in November.

At Scope, the Katharine James is the 1m, and as Claire said you need to place in a qualifier, the 1.05 is the Adventurer and likewise.

If you get your 4 DCs in the April to April period in the national classes ie British Novice, Discovery etc (a DC in a Katharine James also counts as a disco DC, as do DC in Blue Chip qualifiers at the corresponding heights), you will get regional tickets- two, one for your area and one for any other regional second round of your choice. A triple clear or a place 1-3 (depending on numbers) will qualify you for the final at Scope too.
