Hi,

I've a 2 acre field which is split into (roughly) quarters.

I have been resting 1/2 of it since mid October and another quarter since the beginning of November. (The horses (x2)) have had just one quarter with adlib haylage as the field is quite a slope and with no stables they live out so it can get quite messy.

Anyway, back to the point, I realise that it's not the best time of year for grass to grow but it doesn't seem to have recovered at all!

I'll be needing to use it again soon (or that was the plan), is it too early to use fertiliser ? Which one is best? Can I just fill a wheelbarrow and scatter it with a shovel (the field is still too wet to drive on really)?

Thanks!

I personally wouldn't scatter it with a shovel as you need to cover the ground evenly as too much in one place can birn the grass off. If you have to spread it by hand best thing to do it put some rubber gloves on ad walk round with a buacket throwing it!

the grass wont grow while temps under bout 7degs so till it warms up theres not a lot you can do, and im not sure but i believe your suppose to fertilise during growth periods, so id say end of march looking at the weather at the mo. nitrogen based stuff gets pretty good results, you need it to be rained in and then left min 7 days. other option would be to test soil see if its lacking any nutrients, limestone cld be and option
