Hi everyone,
I need recommendations or advice on the supplements / vitamins you use or dont use.

Im looking for a general purpose supplement as a bit of a boost, with vitamins and minerals and a good iron content.

My mare has been ill with a virus and is very slow to recover, and she is a very good do-er so she doesnt get large amounts of feed / hay, so id like to get more vits into her.

I went to our local feed / tack shop last week and they only had two NAF multi purpose and another one that was about £40 for a month!!! They also had between 40-60% ash content and very little actual beneficial contents. One only had about a pea size of iron content in the whole bag! I know they dont need a lot but surely there is little benefit in feeding this?

Ive heard that seaweed is the best as it is filled with vits and minerals and costs a fraction of the ready made supplements. Is this worth while?

I really dont want to throw her on a million and one antidotes id just like something to give to her to keep her on top form over the winter, with the reduced grazing.

THANK YOU, cookies, hot choc, cake...anything id just love some help <3
xx

I don't know about the amounts of everything in it, but I love NAF Oilovite :)

It's only £9 for a small tub (which has lasted me over 2 months) and my pony looks fantastic on it. Tont's a good doer and although it has oil in it, he's actually lost weight. He looks lovely though, his coat is so shiny and healthy :p

I really hope your mare recovers soon :(

hi you could try a horslyx lick in the stable -theyre full of vits and minerals and keep them entertained too, all for around £10:D:D:D:D

I really rate NAF Oilovite too. Not the most expensive by far but does a terrific job, I always use it. Give it a go. Good luck.

I use Benevit from Feedmark . Around £25 for months supply. If you Google them you can see a list of the content. They offer next day delivery (free). You can buy online or over the phone.

I use Equimins Advance, it's great and has helped the condition of my horses. I used Pro Bio before that was also good, but Advance just gives them a bit extra.

global herbs do a good one called glabalvite, highly rate it lasts just over a month, has a nice smell to it which i find is good as taz can be fussy as he thinks i try to poison him, naf to a general purpose supplement, have never used it, supercodlivine also do an allround supplement, thats also good, i use it for bruce, he's an older pony but it seems to make a big difference, with super codlivine, you need to make sure you have the all round supplement rather than the joint supplement, there are lots out there which makes things confusing

a few month ago i had a horse with gastric ulcers, i tried every singlw gastroguard i could find and nothing worked so i got my vet to check him over and he couldnt understand why he was still loosing weight and said there was nothing more he could, so i binned the vet off and tried a supplement called `restore` by global herbs it basically cleans their insides up, after he had had the course of restore he didnt seem to loose any more weight, so i got the vet back out to check him out and the ulcers had completely gone! i would reccomend restore to anyone as it does for all horse fat, skinny or old! maybe you could try your horse on this to built her up slowly and to have a good clear out inside

I also recommend GH Restore for a horse recovering from illness.

I also used Trinity Consultants who were great for advice and I used L94 for 10 days which really perked him up.

After that, I only supplement SOME minerals and vits (mag, cal & cu) as the forage around here is really good.

I think Pink Powder is really good too!

Another vote for GH Restore, I use it when they are under the weather and used it in the spring on the older boy when he was hanging onto his coat a bit. Just gave him the boost he needed.

Vit+mins wise I use GH Globalvite. It smells like bananas which makes me wretch at the moment (morning sickness!) but the horses seem to love it and they all look good.
