They are expensive but I found a Boett rug to be the best thing to use when my NF mare suffered from horrendous sweet itch

Stable him from dusk to dawn. And think about investing in a good sweetich rug.

If you get him in a Boett rug he can stay out 24/7 they are brilliant, not cheap but better than anything else on the market

use a good fly repellent such as DEET and if you do get outbreaks apply benzyl benzoate (from chemists) work it really well into the skin. Good luck

The worst thing you can do for him is leave him to live out. Mine frets at the mere suggestion of being out any longer than when the midges have appeared, he paces up and down knowing he is going to get nibbled. If you cant keep him in I would seriously consider loaning him to a home that can keep him in at the worst times for you.

Having had a horse that suffers for 10 years, I have finally got it under control but boett or not he simply would not cope with being out dawn and dusk, end of.
