I'm in need of some new stirrups and as I have only ever had old school standard or fillis irons i just wondered what other people have? If you could say what you use them for as well that would be great!

I'm just a bit confused with all the sprenger/fake sprenger, bent, slanted treads/grater treads and dont know what i'm supposed to be looking for! Also i have a thing about getting my foot stuck so i'm assuming all these new fandagled ones are safe?!??

At the minute i probably do 50% hacking out and 50% schooling on the flat and a little jump now and again. I dont think i lose my stirrups very often (only if they do something unexpected!) so should i just stick to what i know and get some new fillis irons? I'm confused . . . !

I've just swopped my fillis irons for some sprengers as I now have a treeless saddle which has closed bars so bought the sprengers for safety.

I didn't expect them to be as comfortable as everyone said..... but they are! I love them! They are so comfy. Well worth the extra expense. I can't confirm if they work or not on the safety side as not fallen off and not intending too!

I just use normal stirrups at the moment - standard ones on my jumping saddle and fillis on my dressage saddle, however I am longing for some sprengers or similar.

I rode a friend's horse for a while and she had thorowgood sprenger-style stirrups on her saddle - they are lovely, and quite a bit cheaper than the originals so I reckon I'll go for them when I have some spare cash ;)

I use the bent leg safety stirrups - I love them - nice and roomy and your feet just fly right out of them when you fall off so no fear of getting a foot stuck. Anything else just feels too small now, Im so used to them lol

I use the sprenger bow balance stirrups. I use them for dressage jumping hacking everything really. I have two pairs as it was a pain to keep changing them on the different saddles. I got them because the bow balance emulate the bent leg safety iron and put your lower leg/foot in a better position. I decided to get these because I suffer with somthing called ehlers danlos syndrome which affects my joints and the bend in them really does cushion any impact and therefore I can walk away at the end of a heavey schooling session.
I did try a pair of cheaper immitation ones, they where grey so Im assuming they where the thorrowgood ones and they didnt bend as easily and felt quiet resistant when riding. So I really dont think you are getting what you think you are getting for the money. If you want bendy ones get the bow balance or the system 4 ones from sprenger. The quality is far more superior!!

Buy cheap, buy twice is my moto.

WE use 'bendy' irons on our saddles, they are comfortable to ride in & help with position. They aren't the expensive Sprenger ones, I think ours were between £15 & £20 a pair, but well worth having. ;)

I have the flexi stirrups, they are bendy and also safety stirrups. took a week or so to get used to them but love them now. Sprenger ones are no doubt better but these are about £15 on e-bay as opposed to big bucks for sprengers.

I have Sprenger offsett eye flexi stirrups and Sprenger Bow Balance.
I prefer the Offsett eye stirrups but they weren't wide enough for a pair of my boots, the Bow Balance are mens size.

Hi,
I have the sprenger bow stirrups, they are great!
To start with i couldnt get on with them but now i love them.
They have a wider stirrup pad which makes them very comfortable, they are also very good for your balance and leg position, i have lost my stirrups a couple of times and i have got them straight back! I have fell off once jumping in them and my foot came straight out of them!
I would definately reccomend them :D

I've got some of the Endurance stirrups with a cage for your foot so it cant slip out. They've got special bits on the bottom which "give" when you ride and a lovely wide footplate - not like normal stirrups at all, but they're soooo comfy.

They're admittedly a tad ugly to look at - in fact they look more like Western stirrups, sort of, but they're fantastic. They're not cheap, I think they were about £60 ish and were more because of the cages (you can buy them without). I've not tried the Sprenger ones, they sound good and certainly look more conventional if that's what you want.

Technically you could wear sandals in the stirrups I've got and you'd be perfectly safe coz the cage would stop your foot slipping out (not that I shall do so!).
