Long story, but basically my horse, the almighty, Samuelhorse is broken...
I got the vet out at the end of May as he was lame when ridden but fine in hand... Vet came out found nothing wrong, but said if he is lame like i said to have 5 - 7 days boxrest. Im not calling the vet cos Sam passed flexion test on both front legs and looked fine that morning.... Week later turned him back out into the starvy (Chronic laminitc)
Came in next morning very lame....... Got vet back - who decided has laminitis as feet warm.... TBH i couldnt find a pulse and i usually can (plenty of practice)
Been for xrays and show pedal bone rotation and sinking in both front feet and a keratoma which has caused remodelling of the pedal bone so the tip looks like there is a half moon missing... (these changes apear to be old)

Anyway, now on 2 weeks off grass, soaked hay etc...... then build up slowly with muzzle on in starvy........

Just need some vibes for Sam....
and any tps on acute lami management.....................

Poor Sam, got well soon. x He is lucky you care so much about him.

My horsey is broken too with arthritis x 4. I know what you must be feeling.

Fingers crossed for you both. x

stay positive - my friend went through the same problem with her horse.
She is on the forum, and i've told her so she has said she will come on here and message you to tell you how she managed it.
Good luck

I was going to pm you tonight to see how he was getting on,sorry to hear no improvement.Dont despair one of my friends from same yard has been through this twice and managed to get her boy back on track. He will never compete but is having lots of fun with her neice at local shows and gymkana games.Lots of vibes coming sams way

Good to hear an update from you, I was wondering if you'd found out what was going on with Samuel after your post the other day. Bad news that its laminitis, horrible condition and a total pain in the neck. I hope the changes in his feet are old, that this is a fairly mild attack and that he recovers quickly.

Oh No. That sounds awful. Poor you and poor horse. keep us updated. Is he on frog supports, bute, acps?
I thought the standard advice for laminitis rehabilitation was turn out 30 days after the horse was sound without drugs? 2 weeks seems a bit early?? Im noy criticising you or your vet, but just repeatig what I have been told and experienced with my horses.

hello,

Really sorry to hear about your horse, I have been in your situation so can understand how you feel, about 4 years ago my mare got laminitis and ended up with 4 rotated pedal bones, 2 of which sunk (front). Its horrible to see your horse in pain but with the right treatment it can be managed.

My mare is due to go out on loan now and is fully recovered, can be ridden out, jumped, and is more of a handful to ride than she ever was before! Her feet dont look perfect and her soles are still lower to the ground than before but this is only the same as what you would have to deal with, with a flat footed horse.

So dont give up hope, yes you will always have to watch your horses weight and turn him out on restricted grazing but it doesnt mean you cant still have fun. My mare even manages to live out all year round on a very bare paddock and she's happy!

Good Luck, PM me if you want to talk about anything xx

thank you everyone, went and picked im some nettles this morning and took him for a little walk.......
seems better, but that is probably the bute...
Its so unfair, hes thinner than ever, more riding than for years and in a starvy.......................

still, these things come to try us!!!

Just wondering if it could be the Dengie HI FI, i swopped his feed as he was lacking energy and was giving him it by the bucketful??????????
Or could it be the hard ground????????

Anyway, this morning feet are cool apart from round coronary band and i cant feel any pulses (but was told from the vet there doesnt have to be)

Last day of bute tomorrow...............

Thanks again everyone. xxxxxxxx
